- Implement the guidance and counseling program using appropriate techniques and models
- Provide guidance to students and parents on academic requirements, scheduling all HS and dual credit/college courses to maintain progress towards graduation and/or degree attainment (including graduation pathways and plans)
- Assist students in understanding personal strengths, weaknesses, interests, values, potentialities, and limitations
- Administer college readiness tests (e.g., IvyTech Knowledge Assessment )
- Coordinate college and career programming, including scheduling college visits, identifying internships and other opportunities
- Assist in long-range goals including assistance in college applications, financial aid, and scholarship processes
- Assist students in acquiring skills and attitudes related to college and career readiness (i.e. interview skills, professional appearances, etc.)
- Participate in and initiate parent conferences as needed
- Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
- Develop effective professional relationships and communicate effectively with other staff members
- Work with staff by providing appropriate information, materials, and assistance in supporting teacher efforts
- Provide crisis intervention support as needed
- Maintain open relationships with community resources, including business, industry, government, and community agencies
- Act as primary local liaison with partner higher education institutions
- Demonstrate knowledge of and make appropriate referrals to community agencies
- Assist in staff recruitment to aid in dual credit/Early College model
- Utilize all computer systems for maintenance of student records
- Manage guidance department personnel (e.g., bus drivers, college readiness counselors)
- Document and maintain reporting and follow-up system for all early college activities
- Maintain complete and accurate student records
- Meet deadlines for submitting accurate reports
- Uphold all GEO Foundation and school policies
- Other duties or tasks necessary to assist students or requested by supervisor
- Attend all staff meetings, professional development and attend designated school functions outside of school hours
- Collaborate with Principals, Dean of Students, High School Councilor, SPED, Nurse and School Leadership Team to provide Social Services to students
- Collaborate on Behavior Intervention Plans
- Train school staff in drug, violence, trafficking, and trauma responsive practices
- Implement drug and violence prevention programs
- Collaborate on functional behavior assessments
- Educate students and school staff about bullying and harassment prevention
- Implement programs that support dropout prevention and re-entry
- Provide social emotional learning regarding interventions that build resilience, self - control, empathy, persistence, and other social and behavioral skills
- Provide individual and group counseling to students
- Provide Social Work services as outlined in student's IEP
- Write and monitor IEP behavior goals
- Attend IEP conferences for students with assigned Social Work services
- Valid Indiana License
- Commitment to the mission and goals of GEO Next Generation High School
- Bachelor's degree in School Counseling/ Social Work
- Knowledge of Indiana Graduation Requirements and College and Career Readiness Programs
- Experience in working with high school students and in reviewing student transcripts, scheduling, & graduation requirements
- Demonstrated success in Guidance Counseling/ Social Work as demonstrated by annual performance evaluations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office operations
- Master's Degree in School Counseling/Social Work
- Experience working with high school students in a non-traditional setting and/or an urban environment

GEO Next Generation Academy - Indianapolis is a part of a network of high-quality public charter schools that deliver the innovative GEO Academies model developed by the GEO Foundation. It joins 21st Century Charter at Gary and Gary Middle College in delivering a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. GEO Next Generation Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades 9-12.
