    Overview

    $5,000 Sign-on Incentive For Qualified Applicants

    Responsible for staff oversight including phlebotomy, lab office, Lab Information Systems and Medical Lab Scientists/Medical Lab Technologists/Clinical Lab Assistants in the Jones Regional Medical Center Laboratory. Assists with maintaining accreditation of the laboratory and coordinates the community wellness programs along with hiring new employees, performance evaluations, master timekeeper and scheduling duties. Manages staff in daily operations and assures completion of certification, safety coordinator for the laboratory, assuring competency is maintained for technical staff, oversight of the specimen processing area and other duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

    Supervision

    Supervises technical staff including competency, training, certification and scheduling.

    Develops laboratory procedures and assures checkoff of procedures done in a timely manner.

    Maintains performance improvement and quality assurance documentation for the laboratory.

    Hires new employees and performs evaluations, disciplinary actions, and staff orientations.

    Responsible for lab meetings and communication of information to laboratory staff.

    Ensures inspection readiness, assures quality patient testing and collection, and proper follow up for variances involving the laboratory.

    Supervises ordering and resulting of proficiency testing in the laboratory.

    Performs master scheduling and timekeeping, reviews budgetary items, and makes recommendations for improvements.

    Helps evaluate new analyzers and test platforms.

    Serves as laboratory safety coordinator and accreditation assistant.

    Coordinates community wellness program.

    Works with medical director and other pathologists to help integrate pathology.

    Works with clinics to help provide support for their laboratory needs.

    Pre-Analytic workflows

    Greets everyone with a pleasant and professional manner, using patient experience best practice guidelines (AIDET, 5/10 Rule and No-Point, etc.).

    Identifies patients and samples using two patient identifiers, always labeling samples in the presence of the patient.

    Collaborate with nursing services to receive and issue blood products.

    Performs venous and capillary blood collections independently for patients of all ages within specified safety parameters, timelines and pace.

    Performs sample processing, aliqouting, and sample preparation for transport.

    Oversees the collection of urine drug screens and breath alcohol, complying with DOT regulations and/or company protocol.

    Utilizes supply items in a cost effective manner, recognizing when to reorder, and assisting with unpacking and/or restocking items.

    Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs for patient identification, registration, order, sample tracking and reporting test results.

    Achieves basic understanding of lab tests to answer patient questions in an easy to understand way.

    Analytic workflows

    Uses good laboratory practice to perform all levels of testing in accordance with procedures approved by Laboratory Director and within manufacturer specifications.

    Performs and documents routine instrument maintenance as assigned.

    Troubleshoots and resolves instrument and equipment issues.

    Assists with the review or writing of procedures as requested.

    Strong knowledge of computer systems used on analyzers, LIS and HIS.

    Monitors technical practices to meet necessary standards, recommendations and requirements of voluntary and government agencies (CAP, TJC, CLIA).

    Works closely with testing personnel with lab procedures/tests/training

    Follows appropriate reporting protocols including critical value reporting.

    Able to review reports for errors.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Minimum Requirements

    Education:

    Associate degree or equivalent and

    Graduate of an accredited Clinical Lab Science program

    Or

    Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec & General Supervisor under Federal Register Sec

    Bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science.

    Experience:

    Two years' experience in Clinical Laboratory.

    Previous experience overseeing Laboratory sections.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) /MT (Medical Technologist) / MLT (Medical Laboratory Technologist)

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.

    Basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.

    Previous experience with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments laboratory regulations.

    Other:

    Ability to use customary equipment to perform essential functions of the position.
