    Job Summary: To safely lead a Day-shift Lab Crew as well as perform the required chemical and physical analysis on both the raw materials and the finished products of aluminum alloys and extrusions.

    Required Education/Experience:

    • Bachelors' Degree preferred or relative experience

    Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

    • Minimum Three (3) years of Lab experience preferred
    • Good mechanical aptitude to safely and efficiently operate equipment including testing equipment, band saw, milling machines, lathe, drill presses, hand tools, etc.
    • Good mathematical written skills to accurately analyze and report all types of test results
    • Must be highly motivated and able to work responsibly without direct supervision in a team environment. Good communication skills to interact with other analysts
    • Basic problem-solving skills and ability to exchange and explain technical information
    • Must have good safety awareness and record

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Provide safe leadership to the Lab Analyst Crew in all facets of Lab activity
    • Instruct, as needed, on safe work practices and instruct / correct Team Members on established procedures
    • Determine and report the chemical analysis of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods via optical emissions spectroscopy, including sample preparation
    • Determine and report the mechanical properties of finished goods in accordance with the prescribed company, federal, military and/or all other specifications required by the customer, including sample preparation
    • Perform daily calibration checks on equipment necessary to perform the above testing and make necessary adjustments as required and permitted
    • Perform all tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all company, department and EHS policies and procedures
    • Perform other metallurgical inspection functions as required by company and/or customer requirements (e.g. – conductivity testing, bend testing, grain size analysis)
    • Prioritize the workflow through the lab – red boards, rush orders, FIFO logic.
    • Responsible for communicating between shifts
    • Help chain for other departments
    • Actively participates in problem solving to improve the Lab
    • Leads shift TPM's and is responsible for ensuring TPM systems are maintained in the Lab
