    _This is a hybrid position, with preference for the candidate to be located within 50 mi of our Norfolk, VA Elevance Health office.

    Software Engineer Intern to assist in developing our software build and deployment processes, by implementing and integrating specific software development tools that have been licensed for use by our organization.

    Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Leverage leading-edge technologies to assist in the design and development of high quality software products in an Agile environment;
    • Assists in testing and debugging software applications; Works on less complex software design projects;
    • Makes enhancements to or maintains existing software applications as per business requirements.
    • Collaborate with senior and or lead software engineers, business analyst and/or business leaders to design software applications.
    • Utilize best practices to drive projects through some or most phases of development lifecycle, from inception to product delivery, including architecture, design, implementation, and testing.
    • Actively collaborate with other team members.

    Students should have experience and education in:

    • Python, R, Java, C#, TypeScript, HTML
    • SQL Databases, Querying languages
    • Text Analytics and Natural Language Processing, Sequence Labeling
    • Machine learning, Probabilistic and Statistical Learning Methods
    • Deep Learning, recurrent neural networks, Convolutional neural networks
    • Emerging topics in artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, conversational bots, and knowledge representation and reasoning
    • Advanced user of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Ability to work 40 hour per week 8 hours per day May 20 to August 9
    • Currently enrolled in a program of study at an accredited college/university
    • Experience applying analytical, problem solving, written and oral communication skills in a diverse, high productivity, learning environment
    • Students must be authorized to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship requirements
