    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Conduct coastal studies, flood risk management, coastal restoration, and shoreline stabilization projects, including coastal structure planning and have interest in planning and design of public spaces at the land-water interface, resort planning and recreational boating facilities
    • Complete data and engineering analyses and GIS mapping
    • Perform field work as needed
    • Prepare written reports and assist in preparation of construction plans and technical specifications
    • Field data collection and navigation of difficult terrain may be required
    • Implement scientific and regulatory tasks for projects in order to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations and policies, including NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act
    • Assist with project types including:
      • Dredging and beach nourishment
      • Waterfront structures
      • Coastal and environmental protection initiatives
      • Ecological surveys
      • Wetland restoration
      • Coastal site development

    Qualifications:
    • Masters Degree in Coastal Engineering or related field
      • A Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with Coastal coursework and at least one year of related coastal experience will also be considered
    • Entry to 3 years of experience as a coastal engineer
    • GIS proficiency
    • Programming skills desired (MATLAB, Python or similar)
    • Design skills desired (GIS, CIVIL 3D, AutoCAD, Google earth engine etc.)
    • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST

    Physical requirements:
    Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
