    Product Support Design Engineer


    Under the direction of the Engineering Product Support Manager, the Product Support Design Engineer shall perform a wide variety of engineering related functions using sound engineering principals.

    These functions will be related to Product Support design engineering and support of new and existing products. This position analyzes, interprets and recommends proper product design solutions for hazardous sites on highways throughout the world.


    Job duties include:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Understand and be familiar with highway design documents; MASH, NCHRP 350, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide and applicable ASTM material and hardware specifications.
    • Analyze, interpret and recommend conceptual through final design solutions for assigned engineering projects. Includes collecting necessary engineering data and performing engineering calculations on new or existing designs (stress analysis, dynamic loading, etc.), as well as selecting proper design of existing products to meet customer's needs.
    • Modify existing products to meet special situations as requested by internal and external customers following Valtir Quality Procedures and Processes.
    • Perform value engineering studies to evaluate and update existing products to reduce manufacturing costs as directed.
    • Investigate, respond and resolve to product problems as requested by other departments and customers.
    • Prepare written reports and/or oral presentations for company personnel, distributors and customers.
    • Check, sign and professional engineer stamp (P.E.) drawings. Ensure that other departments and customers receive correct information in a timely manner.
    NON-
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Provide engineering cost analysis on projects as directed.

    • Advise Engineering Product Support Manager on quality control issues.
    • Perform other duties and assignments as designated by manager.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    A college graduate with a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering is required. A professional license (P.E.) in Mechanical or Civil Engineering is desired or obtainable. Design experience in multiple engineering disciplines (structural, electrical, hydraulics) is desired.

    Experience in initiating and completing engineering design projects, as well as performing field engineering and customer interaction is also required.

    Knowledge and experience with electromechanical systems is desired.


    Computer skills required:

    a solid working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor modeling and ANSYS simulation software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) and Adobe PDF Acrobat.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS


    Good near and far vision, hearing capabilities; ability to communicate by verbal and/or written instructions; ability to communicate extensively by telephone; ability to give group presentations; ability to sit for extended periods of time; ability to perform basic and complex match and engineering calculations; good numbers aptitude; ability to read, interpret and work from technical drawings and other detailed written information; ability to inspect and troubleshoot mechanical systems and crash test articles outside in all types of weather.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Majority of work will be performed in a climate-controlled office setting. Certain functions of the job will need to be performed outside, in all types of weather. Periodic air travel will be required. Valid driver's license required.

    Work is conducted most often in close coordination with other departments within Valtir (Customer Service, Sales & Marketing, Manufacturing, and Legal) in a Team effort with positive collaboration.

    Phone support with customers including distributors and state DOTs. Working extended hours may be required as workload demands.


    Salary Range:
    $86,869-$120,790
