    Description

    Purpose and Scope

    As a member of the dialysis healthcare team, you will provide safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. This includes setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintenance of a safe and clean working environment, and support for the organization's Quality Enhancement Program.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    Patient Related

    • Provide patient-specific education regarding adequacy measures and disease process/access.
    • Welcome assigned patients and evaluate their wellbeing since their last treatment.
    • Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
    • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders.
    • Maintain accurate records of treatment data.

    Staff Related

    • Assist in training of direct patient care staff on appropriate programs under the supervision of a nurse.

    Education/Communication

    • Familiarize yourself with organization business policies, procedures, and systems incorporated into training.
    • Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics, ensuring all areas are safe and clean.

    Record Keeping

    • Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application in an accurate and timely manner.

    Infection Control

    • Support infection control practices and participate in education of patients and families.

    Transitional Care Unit

    • Follow newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis and coordinate transitional dialysis care.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    This position requires standing for prolonged periods, heavy lifting, and moving of patients. The work environment is characteristic of a healthcare facility with moderate noise levels.

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
    • Meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline.
    • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
