    The Agency for Persons with Disabilities works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and supports for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. There is no charge or co-payment for services provided through the Agency.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Employees of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities are required to demonstrate total commitment to outstanding customer service. This includes, but is not limited to, always acting in a responsive, professional, courteous manner with the employees, customers, and public we serve at all times.

    This position provides assistance and support to the Forensic Attorneys, General Counsel, and Office Manager and performs a wide variety of legal, administrative, and clerical functions. The person in this position requires minimum supervision and is allowed the flexibility to exercise a great deal of independent judgment in carrying out assigned duties. It is imperative that the incumbent in this position maintain an effective working relationship with court officials, APD staff, and members of the legal community.

    Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Drafting, editing, and preparing legal documents, pleadings, and court filings under the supervision of the Forensic Attorneys. Preparing and docketing legal documents with the Clerk of the Court and through the e-filing case management online system.

    Assisting researching case histories utilizing the Florida Comprehensive Case Information System (CCIS) and working with Clerk of Courts to re-open cases. Conducting research and fact finding to assist in case preparation.

    Establishing and maintaining active communications with stakeholders in the Forensic continuum (internal/external customers). Coordinating witnesses for court proceedings. Generating subpoenas and updating case management system from returns.

    Maintaining and tracking internal case dockets, managing court calendars, maintaining litigation timetables, and monitoring the legal status/court dates, etc., of clients. Communicating and coordinating with appropriate staff regarding updated information and status changes.

    Serving as the liaison between the Forensic Attorneys, APD staff, and court officials to resolve issues as appropriate and/or secure needed information / documents. Attending depositions, hearing, and/or trials to assist Forensic Attorneys.

    Monitoring reports to the court to ensure timely and accurate submission of legal pleadings.

    Working with attorneys in the General Counsel's office in order to handle administrative and/or clerical functions, including but not limited to: coordinating travel, processing travel reimbursements, arranging court reporters, and handling incoming and outgoing mail.

    Performs reviews and redactions of forensic public record requests and distributes records to the requestor.

    Develops and maintains a case management system for the Forensic Attorneys.

    Maintain and update the Forensic case tracking information used by the attorneys weekly or more frequently as needed.

    Distribute final documents (filed court reports, signed court orders, notice of hearings, etc.) to all relevant stakeholders.

    Performing other related duties as required.

    • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.

    • Knowledge of HIPAA protected information for the purpose of redacting confidential information in discovery and public records requests.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience working in administrative professional setting.

    BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
