    Join HII Elevator Support Unit (ESU) in Chesapeake, VA as we keep the most powerful Navy the world has known afloat and ready to serve.

    ESU trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected Mechanic candidate will support ESU by installing, modernizing, and providing maintenance of shipboard weapons handling systems.

    Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task.

    Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.

    Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.

    Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management.
    Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

    Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.
    Must have experience installing, maintaining and repairing structural and mechanical systems and associated equipment.
    Must have knowledge of safety and quality control steps and procedures.
    Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
    Must be able to travel between 50% - 75% when not assigned to local tasking.

    Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred.

    Current or active DoD security clearance a plus.
    OSHA 10 Maritime Certification a plus
    Experience with installation and maintenance of mechanical systems US Navy, commercial or automotive.

    Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes.

    Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

    May ride ships at sea for extended periods. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
