Primary Function:

Under supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician/Custodian will be responsible for the conducting general maintenance and repairs on facility equipment, property structures, and common areas to upkeep in the best possible condition as well as cleaning and housekeeping functions.

This position ensures that heating and plumbing systems perform at optimum functionality as well as the upkeep of the landscape.

This role is responsible for all UCHC properties that range from health care delivery facilities to adult day health facilities as well as WIC and commercial buildings.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Maintenance Technician Responsibilities Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety regulationsInspect buildings' structures to determine the need for repairs or renovationsSupport the setup of ventilation, refrigeration and other systems and conduct repairs when necessaryMaintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionalityUndertake activities of pest control such as spraying insecticidePlan and coordinate all facilities-related installations (heat, electricity etc.) and refurbishmentsRepairing of building fixtures (doors, windows, ceiling, etc.); some light plumbing and electrical repair.

Repair of building furnishings (furniture)Painting and plasteringRespond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocolsInspect alarm systems such as carbon dioxide and fire protection and quickly schedule repairs when neededKeep track of records and schedules for changing filters, HVAC check and season preparation, building certificate, etc.

Safely driving between eight buildings and transporting supplies and equipmentCleaning/Housekeeping ResponsibilitiesHandling power machines for floor cleaning, buffing, and waxingSweeping and dry/wet mopping floorsVacuuming carpetsEmptying of waste receptacles & replacing the liners of disposal of wasteCleaning of lavatories and commodesReplacement of lavatory supplies, cleaning of sinks, glass work, walls, doors and tile workDusting/polishing of ledges, windows and furnitureMoving of waste, medical waste, equipment and supplies within and outside of the buildingsSuppliesReceiving incoming supplies and equipmentDistribute incoming packages and suppliesClean and maintain custodial supply closets, notifying supervisor when supplies are low Yard/LandscapingRemove debris, snow, ice and water from building exits and ramps and gatesClean pavement, planting, grass cutting, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, raking and water/snow/ice removalMiscellaneousOther duties as assignedQualificationsBasic KnowledgeTwo (2) years of experience in custodial work or as a handyman.

High school diploma or equivalent Experience & Qualifications:

Proven experience as Maintenance Technician or relevant position (5 plus years is preferred) and CustodianHigh school diploma (or GED) or associate degreeExcellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with and work among other co-workers, supervisor and patientsExcellent organizational skills Good analytical/critical thinkingDemonstrates initiative and proactive problems solving skillsCertified and experienced electrician and/or plumber preferred, but not requiredCurrent Massachusetts's driver's licenseAbility to act independently and safely, according to procedure.

Ability to work outside and inside, spending most of the day " on your feet," standing, lifting, bending.

Must endure physical labor work, such as physically capable of lifting at least 50 pounds, standing, reaching, climbing, walking, etc.
