Purpose and Objectives of the Position: The Head Custodian provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks the Head Custodian must work closely with the Staff, Maintenance Director and Administration of the District. It is the responsibility of the Head Custodian to ensure that the facilities are maintained in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety. The Head Custodian has supervisory responsibility over the other custodians including seasonal custodial employees. Safety, cleanliness and continued efficiency of operation shall be a major goal at all times.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide a clean, safe, attractive, and comfortable environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.React to changes and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, and handle other tasks as assigned.Safely operate all equipment and machinery as required.Lead and possess sound human relation skillsPerform and oversee repair and maintenance of the Custodial equipment of the District USD 372Monitor, Manage, and Maintain current inventory levels Recommend to the Maintenance Director the purchase and replacement of Custodial equipment and custodial supplies Provide daily Custodial needs where needed Meet on a regular basis with the Maintenance Director and/or Building Administrator to review needed Custodial work and purchase of suppliesAssign work schedules for custodial staff Direct the work of custodial staff Consult the building Principal as to needed maintenance Make weekly inspections of all Custodial needs of buildings Assists in the recruitment, employment, assignment, transfer, promotion, demotion, or dismissal of custodial personnel Assist in the evaluation of custodial staff Maintain necessary records as required Coordinate vacation schedules Understand and implement safety procedures as required by the District USD 372Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
A minimum of a High School Diploma with demonstrable leadership skills and experience in a supervisory capacityMust maintain a valid Kansas DL license.Ability to understand chemical hazards.Ability to work independently without supervision.Experience and knowledge in the areas of electrical, maintenance, and carpentry preferred.Ability to manually lift a maximum of 75 pounds.Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.Ability to implement and follow all USD 372 district standard health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.Must verify good health by passing a physical examination, which includes TB and drug test as required.Performs other duties as assignedOther Requirements:
Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 75 pounds.Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, reaching, climbing, balancing and walking long distances.Ability to move furniture or equipment within the building as required.Use of standard o?ce equipment including computer and peripherals; hand truck, dolly, and pallet jack; small hand tools; Jansan Equipment; light truck or van Must be able to work work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stressEnvironment: Work inside and outside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, and vibration; work around moving objects or vehicles; may work alone; occasional prolonged or irregular hours
