    Director of Accounting Operations

    Job Summary:

    Responsible for the oversight of R.E. Garrison's general ledger and accounting operations located at the company's headquarters in Cullman, Alabama. The Director of Accounting Operations will assume ownership of assigned duties and task within the general accounting group, displaying initiative, analysis, and problem-solving skills, improving, and maintaining the value of financial data and working with the CFO to ensure the timely and accurate filing of monthly and annual financial information.

    Duties / Responsibilities:

    • Ensure accuracy of general ledger by working with accounting team to review and reconcile all accounts monthly.
    • Review, monitor and create internal controls and standard operating procedures (SOP's).
    • Over required monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings and requirements including working with external CPA firm on tax compliance needs.
    • Monitor procedures to ensure continuous improvement of general accounting functions.
    • Responsible for overseeing the monthly and annual financial reporting package including close and reconciliation.
    • Responsible for supervising, training, and development of accounting staff.
    • Oversee cash management including reconciliation and reporting on cash transactions on a daily and weekly basis.
    • Manage treasury functions for the company including moving cash between accounts and working with bank.
    • Responsible for monthly close process and related closing entries and accruals.
    • Perform consolidation and consolidated reporting for all business units.
    • Manage all inter-company accounting entries.
    • Manage financial systems including changes to configuration and system updates.
    • Responsible for managing and working with external CPA firm to complete the annual audit.
    • Perform ad hoc and special projects as required to support the CFO.

    Required Skills / Abilities:

    • Excellent management, supervisory and people skills
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Proficient in computer application systems, including but not limited to Microsoft Office
    • Experience with McLeod preferred
    • Must be a team motivator and strong people person
    • Must have a strong passion and interest in automation projects

    Education & Experience:

    • Must have five to seven years in a financial management role with a degree in accounting
    • Master's level degree and CPA designation is strongly preferred
    • Experience in transportation industry is a plus
