    Department Summary:
    The Biotechnology and Life Sciences Department within the Emerging Technologies Innovation Center is looking for a Lead Assessor to join its Biological Safety, Security, and Quality group
    The Lead Assessor will be an integral member of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team and will lead the design, execution, and reporting of independent assessments for MITRE's sponsors

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Design Assessments:

    • Define assessment objectives.
    • Develop assessment approaches and methodologies.
    • Identify and review appropriate best practices and standards for the assessment.
    • Prepare materials to guide assessments such as interview questions, checklists, document requests, and demonstrations of competency.
    • Execute Assessments:
    • Lead (or participate as part of) a multi-disciplinary team to conduct assessments, both domestically and overseas, in accordance with the assessment design.
    • Record detailed evidence and observations during assessment activities.
    • Report Findings:
    • Analyze evidence and observations.
    • Determine alignment of findings with assessment objectives, relevant industry standards and practices, applicable key performance indicators, and/or programmatic goals.
    • Write evidence-based findings reports and present results to relevant stakeholders.
    • Provide recommendations for improvement based on observations and applicable standards or best practices.
    • Prepare technical presentations, reports, whitepapers, tutorials, and other materials as necessary to communicate progress and findings of projects to colleagues and government sponsors.
    • Maintain and develop technical knowledge related to assessments

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
    • Candidate must have a background in one of the following areas: biological safety, biosecurity, quality assurance, quality control, epidemiology, life sciences research, emergency preparedness and response, CBRNE preparedness and response, or related fields.
    • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to:
    • Lead independent assessments, audits, or inspections.
    • Apply standards and best practices.
    • Develop evaluation criteria in the absence of relevant standards.
    • Combine and organize information into meaningful patterns.
    • Candidate must demonstrate the following skills:
    • Attention to detail.
    • Written and verbal communication skills.
    • Learning agility.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S
    Secret security clearance

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with international programs.
    • Experience designing and performing scientific research
