    Behavioral Health Counselor

    The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for providing a range of behavioral health services to shelter guests and program participants presenting with mental health and/or substance use disorders. Through a combination of direct client support and partnership management, this role works to prevent crises, promote safety and well-being, and support clients in their recovery and journeys towards long term housing stability. The ideal candidate will make use of the required education, certifications and experience to fulfill a passion for making a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable people.

    This full time, exempt position is onsite, primarily at our 540 West Hanover Ave, Morristown NJ residential shelter but will travel locally to other HSI facilities as required.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Provide Behavioral Health consultation and interventions as needed to support Shelter clients and Transitional Housing families.
    • Develop treatment plans that incorporate evidence-based, trauma-informed, therapeutic modalities.
    • Work collaboratively with other HSI team members as needed in order to support guests/participants applying for Social Security Disability Benefits, and maintaining appropriate health insurance coverage.
    • Maintain strong relationships with community partner providers to support and facilitate outside referrals for clients.
    • Provide support and guidance to clinical interns.
    • Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records for client treatment plans, progress notes and discharge summaries through applicable electronic systems.
    Qualifications:
    • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or Mental Health Counseling, and related active state licensure required.
    • Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience providing behavioral health services required.
    • CADC/LCADC preferred but not required.
    • Prior substance use treatment experience preferred. Lived experience considered.
    • SiFi certification or willingness to obtain preferred.
    • Familiarity with EHR documentation and processes.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
    • Valid drivers license and clear driving record required.
    • Ability to attend occasional offsite and off hour meetings as required by the duties of this role.

    Full time permanent staff of Homeless Solutions are eligible to enroll in fully paid medical, dental and life insurance coverage plans in accordance with HSI policies.
