    Position Purpose:

    The Clinical Engineering Technician (CET) functions as part of the Clinical Engineering team providing medical equipment and technology management services to Renown Health.#

    The CET is required to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and verify the performance of general biomedical equipment under the close supervision of the leadership of the Clinical Engineering Department.

    Increasing aspects of the job are administrative and consultative:
    participating in equipment and resource planning and allocation; doing research, providing technical consultation, assistance and training to clinical and other organizational personnel; participating on project, construction and perpetual quality improvement teams involving technology; managing vendor services; and coordinating special projects and activities in assigned service areas

    # The Clinical Engineering Department#s purpose is to support a safe patient care and treatment environment through the effective management of clinical engineering technology.# Flexibility and the ability to identify and shift priorities and activities regularly are imperative.

    # The CET works as a member of the Clinical Engineering team so a high level of communication, cooperation, and coordination are required to complete work, share information, allocate resources, develop policies and procedures, resolve problems and pursue quality/performance improvement opportunities.

    # Functions with a great deal of independence in identifying, initiating and completing work assignments:
    therefore, self-motivation and initiative are necessary.

    # Functions under continual time pressures:

    to respond to stat calls; to identify and correct problems; to return critical equipment and systems to service.

    # Responds to routine and stat service calls on a range of electrical, electronic, electro mechanical, mechanical and pneumatic medical equipment and devices.# Differentiates equipment failures from environmental, applications, supplies, operator or patient induced problems.# Takes actions to correct non-equipment problems.# Troubleshoots equipment failure to the board or component level, as appropriate and most cost effective.# Orders parts considering alternative parts options for cost savings and improvements.# Determines vendor service requirements; arranges and monitors vendor service.# Repairs or oversees repairs of equipment.

    Calibrates to manufacturer#s specifications and inspects for proper operation prior to returning equipment to service. Documents, in detail all work performed.

    # Performs and documents performance assurance inspections on assigned equipment to include physical, functional, calibration and electrical safety checks.# Participates in development and assignment of equipment risk designations.# Reviews and gives feedback on potential revisions to performance assurance procedures.

    # Performs incoming inspection of all medical equipment items entering the system including new, leased, loaned, rented, physician or patient owned.# Inspection may include uncrating, assembly, checking equipment for physical shipping damage, comparison to purchase documents, complete system check-out against manufactures# specifications, electrical safety testing, initiation of equipment historical documents in computerized maintenance and management system (CMMS), and coordination of installation and operator training.

    # # Serves as a contact person and coordinator of activities and information for assigned service areas.#

    Interacts with service area personnel, serves on work teams, as needed; coordinates and performs special projects, research and training for equipment operators.

    # Communicates status of service area activities to supervisor, coordinator and/or team as appropriate.

    # Documents all operator induced equipment problems and follow-up corrective activity on work order.# Instructs individuals and groups of equipment users on proper and safe use of equipment on informal ad hoc basis.# Schedules formal in-service training programs, coordinates, and attends vendor training; provides follow-up to vendor training.# Research, develop and teach operator training programs as required.

    # Assists other technicians in problem resolutions.# Provides formal technical training to other technicians, as needed; researches, develops program and teaches session.

    Shares information with other technicians upon return from vendor service school.

    # Assists and advises health care providers to resolve problems and concerns in cases of patient emergencies and equipment problems caused by applications, use, or patient interface with medical equipment.

    # Coordinates new equipment evaluations in conjunction with supervisor and user departments.# Provides technical assessment and recommendations on purchase options.

    # Coordinates new equipment installations including, receiving, acceptance testing, cable pulling, physical installation, coordination of maintenance and vendor installation activities, operator education and excess equipment removal and disposition.

    # Work schedules may be shifted to accommodate needs of the organization and/or to accomplish special projects and service requirements.# Callbacks for emergencies and overtime are occasionally required.

    This position does not provide patient care.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
    # 1.###### Skills in interpersonal communications, especially verbal.# Ability to explain complex technical issues in lay terms.# Ability to calm and appease clinical personnel in difficult situations. 2.###### The individual should be competent in the use of all applicable test equipment and tools required in the performance of these duties.     Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

    Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.# Associates degree in a technical/electronics field or equivalent military training preferred.


    Experience:
    3 months experience repairing/maintaining electronic equipment is required.

    License(s):
    #Valid State of Nevada or California Driver#s license and ability to pass Renown Health#s Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria within 30 days of hire date
