- Performs duties as assigned by a licensed pharmacist.
- Pharmacy policies and procedures are followed. Areas of work are routinely checked for maintenance of quality control.
- Prepares IV admixtures – TPN's, IV piggybacks, IV Oncology drugs, syringes under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Prepares STAT IV meds as required – delivers product if required.
- Delivers IV's to various locations within the hospital. Returns all discontinued drug from the nursing units.
- Completes and documents daily and monthly cleaning of the IV clean room area.
- Fills and documents individual patient drug bins on a daily basis per the medication fill list.
- Fills and delivers Omnicell drug supplies including narcotic supplies.
- Delivers filled patient bins to the inpatient area of the hospital on a daily basis. Returns medication to the pharmacy for discharged patients. Ensures that no medications are left behind in the patient medication drawer for patients no longer in the room.
- Picks up and delivers medications to all areas of the hospital.
- Maintains the outpatient physician dispensing area with an adequate supply of pre-packed medications.
- Prepacks medications in unit dose packaging using appropriate labeling. Recordkeeping is completed for pharmacist review.
- Completes monthly narcotic inventory both within the pharmacy and at all Omnicell locations throughout the hospital.
- Completes monthly nursing unit inspections in conjunction with a licensed pharmacist.
- Maintains Omnicell devices with in-date medications – completes monthly checks to insure that all outdated medications are removed from the Omnicell prior to expiration date. Completes billing for all medications that require pharmacy billing – including anesthesia records, intra-departmental orders, and drugs picked up and received from outside pharmacies.
- Orders supplies for the department as required on a daily basis including all items from general stores.
- Checks in all orders received from outside vendors, places medications received in the proper location, and completes associated paperwork.
- Maintain drug inventory levels as determined by the Director
- Orders medications from the primary drug wholesaler and all direct sales companies
- Processes emergency orders as required
- Prepares invoices for payment for the Accounts Payable staff
- Processes drug recalls and returns
- Maintains pricing files within EPIC
- Orders supplies internally from the storeroom
- Processes charges for internal and external drug sales
- Completes the annual drug inventory
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Participates in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings.
- Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to the position.
- High school graduation required with post graduate Pharmacy Technician training.
- One year's experience in an acute care facility with IV additive duties preferred.
- License, Registration and/or Certification
- Licensed in the State of Minnesota as a Pharmacy Technician, PTCB registered or eligible.
