    Job Duties
    Norfolk State University's Parking Services seeks a Security Officer II to assist with campus parking enforcement.


    The successful candidate will:

    • Identify vehicles in violation of University parking codes.
    • Issue parking citations, install wheel-locks, and provide motorist assistance.
    • Assist with special events to include planning and coordinating placement of cones and reserve spaces for large or small events, daily and on weekends.
    • Ensure all lots are monitored daily for potholes or for posted signs in need of repair.
    • Assist customers with basic account information such as account balance and permit activity.

    Ability to work the front office to include:
    writing passes, answering the phone and some office work.

    • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Displays a positive attitude and communicates well with students, staff, and the general public.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Demonstrated the ability to install some parking signage.
    • Demonstrated ability to enter and retrieve information pertaining to vehicle registration, identification and status, using the hand held computer system.
    • Demonstrated ability to ensures the accuracy of information and citations entered into the mobile app and provides pictures of parking violations.
    • Considerable experience in customer service to the NSU Community and visitors.
    Assist University Police with working the Campus gates.

    • Demonstrated ability to work under all weather conditions; stand, walk and lift 10 lbs.
    • Demonstrated ability to work rotating shifts to include day, night, weekends and some holidays.
    • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Displays a positive attitude and communicates well with students, staff, and the general public.
    • Considerable experience in the security field required.
    • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of training and education that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Work all special events.
    • Assist with special events to include planning and coordinating placement of cones and reserve spaces for large or small events, daily and on weekends.
    • Assist the Ticket Writers when staff shortage accrue.
    • Work the Gates when needed.
    • The ability to work evening and nights to include working rotating shifts and some holidays.
    • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
    • The ability to work the front desk to include answering the phone and writing parking passes.
    • Good computer skills required and the use of Microsoft office.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • The ability to work independently and take the appropriate action with minimum supervision.
