    Job Description and Duties

    The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) is committed to assisting and protecting children and adults in ways that strengthen families and promote independence. We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Services Analyst (SSA) or Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) with strong analytical skills to join our Fiscal Forecasting Branch (FFB) team. The FFB includes the Child Care and Fiscal Services Bureau and two Estimates Bureaus: Children, Adult, and Housing Programs Estimates Bureau and Family Engagement & Equity Estimates Bureau. These Bureaus play a vital role in developing the annual Local Assistance Governor's Budget and May Revision update for programs administered by County Welfare Departments.

    Under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, this position involves providing fiscal analyses and assisting in the preparation of caseload and expenditure estimates for either Adult social services programs like In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Adult Protective Services (APS), or for Children's social services programs such as Foster Care (FC) and Child Welfare Services (CWS). The chosen candidate will enjoy policy analysis and working with data.

    This position is eligible for a 10% Recruitment and Retention Pay Differential that is applied in the first year and after 12 months of employment. Hybrid telework options are available.

    Telework / Remote Work Information: This position may qualify for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible California residents. Telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not alter employment terms, job duties, or compliance with Department of Social Services policies. The headquarters will be determined based on the selected candidate's primary residence or the closest CDSS location.

    Special Requirements

    Provide a 'Statement of Qualifications' not exceeding two pages addressing specific questions related to education, work experience, and skills. Describe projects involving problem research, evaluation, and recommendation development, as well as experience in oral and written presentations. Include contact information for three recent supervisors. Complete employment history on the application form (STD 678) to avoid disqualification from the selection process

    If meeting minimum qualifications with education, include unofficial transcripts for verification.

    Training and Development assignments may be offered based on candidate availability and approval by the Hiring Authority. These assignments are temporary and do not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

    Out-of-state candidates may be interviewed but must prove residency in California before appointment.
