    The Advocacy Principal at Ryan will act as the main contact person for the Texas Comptroller's Office and tax policy leaders in Texas. As the Principal, you should already have strong professional relationships and a proven track record in developing tax policies, handling tax procedures, and resolving tax-related issues.

    SUMMARY:


    The Texas Advocacy Principal will be leading the tax policy initiatives and managing client issue resolutions in Texas. The appointee will be responsible for formulating and executing strategies that are in line with the company's core objectives.

    The chosen candidate will be responsible for negotiating resolutions for specific client cases with Texas Comptroller's Office and other key decision-makers at the state and local levels.

    Additionally, the Advocacy Principal will develop strong working relationships with government officials at federal, state, and local levels. Collaborating with external groups that share our goals will be crucial.

    This role will involve independent work and collaboration with internal teams comprising Ryan's tax professionals, legal advocates, and external partners within the region.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Resolve client cases and issues efficiently and beneficially for all parties involved.
    • Develop and implement short-term and long-term strategies that adhere to Ryan's vision for tax policies and client advocacy.
    • Contribute towards creating persuasive public policy ideas and effective countermeasures.
    • Review and implement policy, regulatory, and legislative changes either internally or through external advocacy groups to drive positive outcomes aligning with the company's objectives.
    • Enhance Ryan's standing by promoting innovation in taxpayer services.
    • Identify and engage with key external organizations that share common objectives with the company for collaborative support.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to proactively identify opportunities and challenges.
    • Generate comprehensive and timely reports on case statuses, success metrics, and goal alignment for key stakeholders and senior management.
    • Foster a positive team environment that enables members to excel in client service delivery and achieve outstanding results.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree or postgraduate degree in law, government, or public policy, particularly in the tax domain.
    • Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree, Juris Doctor, CPA, or Master of Public Administration.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax public policy, negotiation, preferably within a corporate or professional services setting. A solid background in tax recovery, minimization services, and a history of exceptional service delivery is essential.

    Essential Skills Required:

    • Proficient negotiator with a strong business sense in tax matters, capable of achieving measurable and meaningful results in cases and campaigns to influence positive change in tax policies.
    • Deep understanding of Federal and State tax regulations, demonstrated success in working closely with senior government tax officials, staff, and regulators.
    • Well-established relationships with key decision-makers and influential individuals in regulatory bodies and state legislatures.
    • Skilled in analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating tax policies to recommend strategies that yield favorable results.
    • Excellent communication skills for engaging with individuals, groups, and delivering impactful presentations.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities with a keen eye for detail, organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively, and ensuring timely updates to stakeholders.
    • Capable of working autonomously and collaborating within a team environment while adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic setting.
    • Proactive work ethic characterized by a sense of urgency, thoroughness, and a professional demeanor that instills trust and confidence in tax matters.

    Computer Skills:

    The role requires proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, PowerBI, internet navigation, and research.

    Certificates and Licenses:

    A valid driver's license is mandatory.
    Registration as a Lobbyist may be a requirement.


    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Directly or indirectly supervising employees within the Practice and cross-functional teams following the Firm's policies and legal guidelines.

    Work Environment:

    • Standard indoor office environment.
    • Occasional after-hours and weekend work.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting while using a computer.
    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs may be required.
    • Regular in-person, video, and remote interactions with employees and clients.
    • Expected travel: 30 to 50%.
