Job summary
This position performs preoperative intraoperative and postoperative support activities to assist the nursing team caring for surgical/procedural patients which may include total care within scope of practice stable patient's vital signs activities of daily living promotion of comfort.The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties Other duties may be assigned Utilizes appropriate aseptic technique to open sterile supplies for patient use or for sterile field; performs shave preps; and holds extremities during surgical or procedural precs Cleans transports patients linens trash biohazardous case carts/materials according to established policies wearing PPE ensuring correct signage is in place prior transport Assists in maintaining inventory control system Reviews stocking lists preference cards supply carts ensure/acquire supplies instruments equipment available patient care use Maintains effective inventory control system including daily stocking checks outdates removal discard reprocessing following established guidelines monitoring level supplies i.e case cart trauma cart suture packs supply/specialty carts/rooms Places unused sterile instrumentation soft goods back designated storage locations when returned Perioperative Services HVI Children Hospital Performs tasks answering telephone minor clerical duties designated area Transports non-narcotic medications directed registered nurse PCS transport patient PCA/Epidural pump Cleans autoclaves Sterile Processing Operating Room/Procedural Areas Cleans organizes Sterile Processing areas assigned Monitors halls free extra equipment easy transportation Orderliness cleanliness various equipment supplies designated areas Processes instruments cases wash sterilize heat cold sterilization need arises Maintains orderliness cleanliness mobile fluid-waste equipment Weekly warmer cleaning logged documentation Cleaning autoclaves assigned Documents completion cleaning tasks Wraps instruments supplies sterilization labeling appropriately color labels May assigned preparing processing OR linen sterile packs Documents foster work department Duties include obtainment recording patient weight temperature pulse respirations BP intakes/outputs abdominal girths directed nursing staff Transports specimens records delivery lab log books Add fixative specimens needed Provides respiratory support properly setting up oxygen administration tank regulators checking tank volumes Follows departmental policies procedures reporting equipment room repairs timely manner Performs tagging putting Biomed ticket repair Assists routine unit operations directed smooth communication functioning unit Relays accurate messages persons timely manner Transports linens trash biohazardous materials works environment Exposed communicable diseases body fluids chemicals Understand practice excellent personal hygiene Operate computer program training Ability follow written verbal directions proficient reading writing English language Work communicate healthcare providers Demonstrates team-building communications efforts assist healthcare providers Skills utilize Safe Patient Handling equip Additional Job Description:8hr x 5 potential change 12hr x3 once fully staffed Weekend rotation Scheduled Weekly Hours40 ShiftExemptNon-ExemptUnited States America Non-ExemptCompanyBMC Berkeley Medical CenterCost Center72 BMC Nursing Operating RoomAddress2500 Hospital DrivemartinsburgWest VirginiaEqual Opportunity Employer
