Description of Work

The Pharmacy Technician position works directly with the Pharmacy Consultant position, assigned as the coordinator for the 340B Federal Drug Pricing Program for the Department of Adult Correction, Comprehensive Health Services. The position works in the daily pharmacy work operation as well as the 340Boperation. The position is located at the Apex Pharmacy in Apex, North Carolina in Wake County. The position tracks and monitors drug inventory to ensure compliance and proper replenishment. The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacy Consultant with audits and reports for the 340B Program. Under the direct supervision of the licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician participates in the reviewing and processing of provider medication orders to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, entity eligibility requirements are met, and all patients meet patient definition requirements as required by HRSA policies and regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing the provider medication order and the patient medication profile, entering the required information into a pharmacy software management system, preparing a prescription label, selecting the appropriate drug, counting/preparing the prescribed amount of medication dosage units, proofing for errors, and staging the filled prescription for end product verification by a pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacy Consultant with developing training/competency materials and providing ongoing staff training, education, and communication required for the 340B Program.

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

• Documented knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology and processing techniques.
• Documented knowledge of maintaining appropriate inventory of medications.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Completion of an accredited nine-month Pharmacy Technician program; or High school diploma or General Educational Development diploma and one year of pharmacy-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require certification as a Pharmacy Technician.
