    Overview of the Utility Project Manager Role

    The Utility Project Manager - Northeast supports electrical utility capital projects, including substation upgrades, transmission line upgrades, hydro projects, Smart Grids, environmental compliance work, and gas projects. The primary focus is on practice-related services (management of project management-related services) and secondary focus is on internal business operations (active engagement with business development, financial management, and staff development matters).

    Your Responsibilities
    • Provides daily leadership for the AtkinsRéalis project team.
    • Acts as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and consultants at the project level.
    • Creates and executes project execution plans, revising as needed to meet changing needs and requirements.
    • Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and AtkinsRéalis' scope of services.
    • Promotes effective communication among all project stakeholders.
    • Ensures implementation of management systems supporting the project, such as quality assurance, safety management, risk management, change control, performance management, and contract management.
    • Supports early integration of safety into the design process.
    • Identifies resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities.
    • Reviews deliverables prepared by the team before passing them to the client.
    • Prepares for project reviews and quality assurance procedures.
    • Minimizes AtkinsRéalis' exposure and risk on the project.
    • Maintains complete, current, and stored project documents appropriately.
    • Tracks and reports team hours and expenses on a weekly basis.
    • Supports the manager in providing regular forecasts and expense updates to the project budget.
    • Supports the manager in determining revenue recognition, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, and monitoring project receivables.
    • Assists the manager in monitoring and addressing project billing issues and anomalies, both internal and external.
    • Manages consultant invoices on behalf of the client.
    • Follows up with clients and consultants regarding unpaid invoices when necessary.
    • Supports the manager in developing project accounting forecasts and summaries.
    • Reviews the Project Status Report (PSR) and general financial reporting required to generate client cost reports.
    • Supports the manager in forecasting revenue, profitability, margins, bill rates, and utilization.
    • Pursues the execution and filing of project legal documents effectively.
    • Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
    • Work involves conventional practices but may include complex features.
    • Makes decisions on technical problems and methods.
    • Has direct supervisory responsibilities for direct reports and indirect supervisory responsibilities for professional development of other project staff.
    Your Qualifications
    • Minimum 2+ years of experience in utility project management.
    • Bachelor's degree; Engineering or MBA preferred.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
    • Professional Engineering licenses are optional.
    • Thorough understanding of project management, building design and construction, critical path method scheduling, building cost modeling, and risk analysis.
    • General understanding of Primavera, Expedition/Prolong or similar software, and AtkinsRéalis proprietary Epoch and CATO software.
    • Proficiency in information technology, including internet, intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project.
    • Strong analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
