    POSITION: Short Notice Childcare Assistant

    SALARY: $16.74 per hour

    REPORTS TO: Child Care Center Supervisor

    LOCATION: Child Care; Inchelium, Washington

    Basic Functions: This is a non-exempt position. Incumbent provides direct care to infant-to-preschool aged children and assistance at a school site or day care facility. Implements innovative age appropriate child-centered development and functioning exercises, for a preschool aged child care program that includes parenting education for student parents. While care is custodial in nature, incumbents are required to facilitate developmental exercises, parenting instruction, and may perform limited medical procedures.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Training:
    • Requires the equivalent of a high school diploma plus experience working with students in a classroom or equivalent environment and successful completion of minimum childcare licensing standards.
    • Incumbents assigned to infant and pre-school environments may be required to have 2 credit hours Basics of Child Care.
    • May require a first aid certification.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Requires a basic knowledge of child guidance principles and practices and an understanding of the goals and objectives of a preschool aged child care program in a school district environment.
    • Requires working knowledge of learning exercises and approaches that are appropriate for student parents.
    • Requires working knowledge of the needs and behavior of preschool aged children.
    • Requires working knowledge of proper sanitization and sterilization methods, as well as cleaning materials and disinfectants.
    • Requires sufficient human relations skills to interact with student parents, parents of students, and staff.
    • Requires ability to perform the essential responsibilities and work tasks of the position.
    • Requires demonstrated ability to understand and interpret a teacher's instructions in order to assist in instruction-oriented recreation activities of infant children and learning exercises for student parents.
    • Requires ability to understand the needs and differences of children and to reach and engage them in play.
    • Requires the ability to balance emotional support and discipline to deal with behavior problems in student parents.
    • Requires sensitivity to the dynamics of teen parenting.
    • Requires the ability to perform indoors in an office and/or classroom environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary to a moderately active nature.
    • Requires near visual acuity to read and write printed materials and computer screens.
    • Requires hearing and speech ability for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to speak to small groups, and to hear sound prompts from equipment.
    • Requires the ability to move about office, classroom, and school grounds, and reach work materials.
    • Requires sufficient manual and finger dexterity to demonstrate teaching aids, to point out important words/figures to students, and to operate personal computers.
    • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and move supplies, furniture, etc., of light-to-medium weight (under 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis.
    Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

    If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
