Join as a Junior 2D Character Designer and gain hands-on experience in the foundational phase of visual storytelling and character development.
This role is dedicated to the "blue sky" and refinement process of character creation—ensuring that narrative beats are transformed into functional, expressive, and aesthetically cohesive 2D designs.
This unpaid internship is designed to provide high educational value, mentorship, and professional development.You will work under the guidance of our creative leadership to learn the nuances of character appeal, model sheet construction, and designing for various animation pipelines (including hybrid 2D/3D workflows).
Key Responsibilities:
Character Refinement:
Translate rough narrative concepts and personality traits into polished 2D character designs while maintaining the intended "soul" of the story.
Technical Model Sheets:
Develop professional-grade turnarounds, expression sheets, and pose libraries to ensure characters are production-ready for animators.
Stylistic Continuity:
Ensure that all character designs, costumes, and props remain consistent with the established world-building and style guides.
Iterative Learning:
Receive direct mentorship and "redline" feedback on anatomy, silhouette, line weight, and color theory to elevate your portfolio.
Collaborative Reviews:
Participate in creative huddles to understand how character performance impacts the overall storytelling and technical production pipeline.
Requirement:
Strong Visual Storytelling:
A portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding of character appeal, silhouette, gesture, and emotive acting.
Education:
Currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) an Animation, Illustration, Concept Art, or related visual arts program.
Software Skills:
Proficiency in industry-standard digital drawing tools (e.g., Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, or Toon Boom Harmony).
Learning Mindset:
Seeking academic credit or mentorship to bridge the gap between student sketches and professional-grade production assets.
For OPT students:
Position is unpaid and meets DOL criteria for unpaid internships.
Additional Notes:
Schedules are flexible to accommodate academic calendars and learning goals. All work is educational, supervised, and structured around skill development rather than production quotas. This is an unpaid internship focused on professional growth, mentorship, and high-quality portfolio development.
