- Diagnoses, repairs, and modify a full range of heavy-duty vehicles and/or heavy mobile equipment, which have mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, electronic and/or electrical systems, controls, and features.
- Maintains and repairs miscellaneous equipment such as generators, air compressors, water pumps, forklifts, and automotive equipment such as dump trucks, and water trucks.
- Replaces, installs, adjusts timing distributors, adjusts voltage and current control units, and adjusts brakes.
- Operates heavy mobile equipment such as trucks, tractors, and trailers.
- Operates light duty vehicles such as passenger vans, pick up trucks, and small boats.
- Documents and maintains shop work orders accurately and completely; completes other works reports
- Occasionally operates mobile crane to handle and place penstock bulkhead and Tainter-gate stoplogs and/or perform maintenance work on gates.

Summary
The Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic performs duties related to the repair, maintenance, & operation of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment; and other technical support duties at a Field Office, Operations and Maintenance Division, Operations Department of the United States Section, International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC).
