    Summary



    The Dayton VA Medical Center is looing to hire a Registered Nurse - Clinical Outcomes Coordinator.

    The Acute Care Nursing Clinical Outcomes Coordinator (COC) is a Registered Nurse who uses specialized knowledge and skills for the coordination of quality improvement across all sections of Acute Care Nursing Service.

    The COC serves as subject matter expert (SME) and clinical expert.

    Functions or Scope of

    Assigned Duties:


    The Acute Care Nursing RN Clinical Outcomes Coordinator demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others.

    The COC Nurse is a proficient registered nurse who demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care.

    Practice is enhanced through development of collegial relationships. This nurse demonstrates collaboration by using the group process to solve problems.

    The focus is on leadership in strategically planning long-term goals for the microsystem (unit, team, or workgroup) that impacts operations or resources.

    The proficient nurse demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations. The competent nurse evaluates others, coaches and mentors others, and demonstrates leadership skills through collaborative efforts.

    The COC has continuing responsibility for all the following functions in collaboration with the Chief Nurse and unit(s)

    Nurse Manager:
    (1) Identifying developmental and training needs of staff and providing or making provision for such development and training to include the design and implementation of orientation and competency evaluation of staff; (2) Planning education/training and competencies to be accomplished by staff, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of training; (3) Assigning education/training to staff based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the training, and the capabilities of staff; (4) Evaluating the performance of staff; (5) Giving advice, counsel, or


    instruction to personnel on work; (6) Maintaining continuous accreditation readiness of unit(s); (7) Responsible for understanding appropriate unit data metrics, data mining/chart reviews, reporting performance improvement data, participating in customer service/patient satisfaction metrics and reporting, supporting patient and employee safety, supporting and monitoring standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards.

    Responsible for completion of recurring quality metrics and reports in a timely manner. (8) Responsible for supporting and advancing evidence-based practice, quality improvement projects and/or research on unit(s) assigned.

    (9) Participates on service and medical center committees and task forces as assigned to improve nursing practice and patient care.

    Actively develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with staff.

    Supervisory Controls:


    The incumbent is responsible to the assigned rating and approving supervisors and is accountable to the Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS).

    Refer to the service Organizational Chart for the supervisory chain of command and the location of the position. The Acute Care Nursing Clinical Outcomes Coordinator is an RN assigned to the Acute Care Nursing Service.

    The incumbent is under the supervision of the Chief Nurse or other immediate supervisor who provides the administrative supervision and general instruction, plans and assigns work, assigns time schedules, approves leave, and completes performance evaluations.

    Clinical supervision is provided by a registered nurse, physician, or other provider.

    Incumbent is responsible for being self-directed in the delivery of patient care under moderate to close supervision and instruction by the supervisor.

    The Associate Director for Patient Care Services provides professional practice oversight.
