    Description

    Position Overview:
    The Director, Accounting is responsible for managing accounting staff for the Washington Wizards and other Monumental Basketball entities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee accounting staff and operations relating to basketball and business operations including revenue, marketing, sales, ticket operations, broadcast and communications, and G&A.
    • Support month-end and year-end close process.
    • Assist in coordination of year-end financial statement audit.
    • Collaborate with department heads on annual budget and quarterly financial review.
    • Prepare NBA league reporting (BRI, CFS, Game Reports) including coordination of club affiliate information and serve as primary liaison for multiple AUPs ensuring CBA compliance.
    • Oversee gate revenue recognition and ticketing system reconciliation.
    • Review sponsorship revenue allocations and trades.
    • Assist with cash management including daily cash reports, weekly projections, and monthly reconciliation.
    • Maintain fixed assets registrar and calculate monthly depreciation.
    • Ensure quality control over financial transactions, financial reporting, and proper revenue recognition.
    • Assist in development and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Coordinate with other MSE Departments as necessary.
    • Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
    • Perform ad hoc analysis as the need arises.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelors' Degree or equivalent experience in accounting.
    • CPA, CMA, or Big 4 experience preferred.
    • Proven accounting experience at a supervisory level, preferably in the sports industry.
    • 6 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
    • Detailed knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
    • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
    • Outstanding accounting software skills.
    • Strong professional ethics and sensitivity in dealing with confidential information.
    • Strong attention to detail is required.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed including summer months; ability to be in office 2-3 days a week
