    Respiratory Care Practitioner at Southside Medical Center in Petersburg, VA

    Job Summary:
    • Provide respiratory care through patient assessment, planning, intervention, education, and evaluation.
    • Perform respiratory care procedures including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator care, bronchial hygiene therapy, diagnostic services, and education.
    • Monitor patient response to therapies and make recommendations based on assessments.
    Essential Functions:
    • Provide clinical instruction and in-service training.
    • Support clinical learning through mentorship and professional advancement.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and lead clinical research.
    • Collect data, maintain records, and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
    • Assist physicians in procedures and perform CPR as needed.
    • Conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures and assess patient status.
    • Administer various therapies, manage oxygen therapy, and document procedures.
    • Evaluate blood and urine laboratory values, perform arterial punctures, and analyze arterial blood gases.
    • Perform EKGs, maintain respiratory therapy equipment, and respond to cardio-pulmonary resuscitations.
    Education:
    • Graduate from an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care (required).
    • Bachelor's Degree related to Respiratory Therapy/Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred).
    • Master's Degree related to Healthcare Admin/Business Admin (preferred).
    Required Licensing & Certifications:
    • Current Respiratory Care License in the state of work (required).
    • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentialed (required).
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (required).
    • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
    • ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required).
    • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required).
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred).
    • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred).
    • Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred).
    • ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred).
    Experience:

    Experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Clinical Competency in specific environments (required).

    Skills & Abilities:
    • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.
    • Effective communication, customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
    • Ability to receive feedback, interpret data, and ensure accountability.
    • Knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment and various therapeutic procedures.
    • Understanding of EKGs, electronic monitoring, arterial blood gas punctures, and patient assessment.
    • Training in EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) is preferred.
