    Maxar is currently seeking an innovative, multi-skilled Spacecraft Chief Software Engineer to join our Software team remotely, or as a hybrid role in Westminster, CO, San Jose, CA, or Palo Alto, CA.

    Your Project: In this role, you will lead and drive software architecture development. We are looking for leaders to bravely challenge conventional approaches and lay the foundation for brand new product concepts and enablers focused on cost competitive space products.

    This is a unique opportunity that requires out-of-the-box solutions and inspired and inspiring leaders.

    Along with other members of this dynamic team, you will play an essential role in shaping capability roadmaps, and lead or oversee software architecture development. You will work with an existing leadership team on programs and will have outward interfaces to internal and external leaders. You will work with an existing Architecture Working Group team to develop a software solution that conforms with NASA 7150 intent and meets our commitments to deliver software for the overall program. This software solution will encompass Flight Software, Dynamic Spacecraft Simulator, Ground Software, and Emulation software.

    What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):

  • Provide senior technical leadership & guidance to the team.
  • Act as Chief Software Engineer, working with the SW Integrated Product Team lead to provide technical leadership on the team.
  • Lead the development of new software architectures running on a range of hardware, simulators, emulators, and ground terminals controlling all spacecraft functions, including Power management, Thermal Management, Mechanism Control, Guidance Navigation and Control, Fault management.Extract, discover, and discuss stakeholder and customer needs/desires and translate them into actionable requirements and design architecturesGuide hardware design and supplier selection based on software requirementsDevelop applications that solve challenging spacecraft problemsPrototype avionics solutions using development hardwareIncorporate secure networking and communications architectures and technologiesMaximize the use of industry standard operating systems and open standardsEnsure new architectures are scalable and fit with the desired roadmap
  • Develop new spacecraft program scope estimates based on customer requirements.
  • Influence the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.
  • Perform hazard analysis, FMECA for Safety critical software architecture and design.
  • Define & analyze requirements; assist PM's in providing labor scope allocation across sub-groups.
  • Be technical point of contact for interfaces to external subsystems and external software applications.
  • Maintain compliance to commercial and governmental software development standards (CMMI, IEEE, NPR-7150.2C)
  • Represent software for failure review boards.

    • Minimum Requirements for this position:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in flight software development for aerospace programs (A Master's degree may replace 2 years of professional experience; a PhD level may replace 4 years of professional experience)
  • Experience working cross-functionally within a company and/or with external partners and contractors
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (role predominantly local, although occasional travel between company sites or to customers sites is required)

    • Preferred Qualifications (Nice to have):

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience with abstracting software design to minimize interfaces and complexity
  • Experience implementing various software architectural and design patterns
  • Experience with Software infrastructure design and interfaces, RTOS (GreenHills, VxWorks, RTEMS), 1553, RS422, RS485, SpW, CAN, discrete interfaces
  • Extensive experience with Avionics requirements and architectures (C&DH, modular architecture, communication interfaces and HW components, data handling and routing devices, command and telemetry interfaces, data storage devices), large solutions across HW/FPGA/SW for Complex Electronics Hardware (CEH)
  • Experience in flight software, ground software, simulations, and Dynamics Analysis / modeling.
  • Experience with Linux and virtualization including containers and hypervisors; APIs and IDLs
  • Experience with VxWorks
  • Experience with integration of NASA Core Flight System framework
  • Innovative thought leadership the leverages your cradle-to-grave product experience
  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Previous contributions to industry technical publications or technical panels

    Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

    $162, $270,000.00 annually.Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
