    Position Description:
    Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory research projects.

    Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards maybe present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances.

    Responsibilities include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment, and for ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies.

    May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    • Performs lab work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the lab and in experiments.
    • Collects research data and maintains records related to corresponding research initiatives. Assists with patient samples, patient consents, completion of corresponding forms, and processing and storage of all documents.
    • Completes advanced scientific procedures. In vivo experiments; intravenous injections, complex patient sample xenografts, flow cytometry on mouse blood and bone marrow, and bone marrow transplantation. Responsible for training research staff on both In Vitro and In Vivo assays.
    • Directs and trains students and volunteers while performing experiments. Trains students on appropriate mouse handling.
    • Will assist with the preparation of figures and text for grant proposals and manuscripts for submission.
    • Coordinates care of rats, mice or other animals housed in the Laboratory Animal Resource Center, including maintenance of breeding colonies. Trains students and volunteers on mice handling techniques and protocols.
    • Responsible for day to day maintenance of lab to include; assists with ordering supplies, inventory, and dish washing, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous laboratory experience is required.
    • Must have experience breeding and maintaining transgenic and/or knockout mouse models for research, and be able to perform intravenous injections on rodents.
    • Will have hands-on in depth knowledge of most of the following techniques: mouse models of disease, flow cytometry, real-time PCR, western blots, aseptic technique, tissue culture, RNA sequencing, metabolomics, and lipidomics.
    • Must have the ability to pay extreme attention to detail and have high level organizational skills.
