Job description

SADD works to empower, engage, mobilize, and change students and adult allies on the issues of mobility safety, substance use, mental health, and leadership development. SADD was founded on the simple philosophy that young people, empowered to help each other, are the most effective force in prevention. Therefore, we're trying to change the world through a peer-to-peer model of school and community-based chapters.

This is a full-time, exempt, remote-based position. It is grant-funded and therefore dependent on continued funding. A minimum of 40 hours per week is expected. The hiring salary range for this position is $58,000–$64,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

SADD operates as a virtual organization. This team member serves as the regional representative leader within their assigned Colorado counties [Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson], leveraging technology to connect with both in-state and out-of-state colleagues and partners while maintaining a strong boots-on-the-ground presence to advance grant and organizational goals. Travel is both required and expected (approximately 25–50%). This position reports to the Director of Field Engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Implementation & Chapter Development

You will implement strategies that increase the effectiveness and engagement of peer-to-peer student leaders at the local, regional, and national levels. Creativity in engaging new partners and young people is critical, particularly given the diverse populations and unique health and safety concerns across assigned counties.

  • Grow, retain, and develop SADD chapters while fostering their participation in programs, events, and initiatives (e.g., outreach campaigns, membership drives, tabling opportunities, direct education and training, meetings with chapters, administrators, and local officials).
  • Keep the network of chapters and advisors informed, enrolled, and active within state and national initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with state affiliates and prevention partners, as applicable, to mutually advance strategic prevention programming throughout the region.
  • Support the development of culturally responsive outreach efforts; bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred but not required.

Program Execution & Community Engagement

This position executes mobility safety and related prevention campaigns aligned with assigned grants. The State Coordinator focuses on program implementation, outreach, training, and partnership development to increase reach, measure results, and raise awareness of SADD's peer-to-peer youth prevention model.

  • Recruit and train students and leaders to serve as peer educators and advocates.
  • Engage chapter advisors and adult allies to strengthen chapter sustainability.
  • Conduct and facilitate virtual and in-person meetings with stakeholders.
  • Present safety programming in schools and community settings.
  • Attend and present at conferences, tabling events, and outreach activities.
  • Increase SADD's presence in relevant local and regional coalitions and prevention settings.
  • Create and distribute communications and marketing content in partnership with SADD's Communications Department.
  • Manage or co-lead a regional Student Leadership Council (SLC), fostering leadership development and supporting the national SLC pipeline.
  • Oversee volunteers and grant-funded interns (as applicable).

Grant-Aligned Program Administration

This role supports the execution of grant-funded initiatives within assigned counties and works in coordination with supervisory and grant management staff.

  • Implement programmatic activities aligned with assigned grants.
  • Track program-related expenses and submit budget requests in coordination with supervisors and grant management personnel.
  • Monitor progress toward assigned goals and performance metrics.
  • Collect and report data related to chapter engagement and program activities.
  • Complete internal and external reports as required.
  • Contribute to achieving SADD's broader organizational and strategic goals.

Note: Fiscal oversight, grant writing, and overall budget management remain centralized with national leadership.

Flexibility & Regional Presence

This role requires strong independent time management and scheduling. The State Coordinator must balance remote administrative work with consistent in-person community engagement across assigned counties.

  • Conduct in-person and virtual meetings and initiatives to mobilize chapters.
  • Travel approximately 25–50% of the time within the region.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events as needed.
  • Demonstrate creativity and responsiveness to regional needs while remaining aligned with grant parameters and organizational strategy.

Collaboration & Leadership

You will work with diverse stakeholders, including teens, adult allies, community leaders, government agencies, coalitions, and prevention partners.

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships that advance program goals.
  • Collaborate with national colleagues to share best practices and strengthen statewide and regional efforts.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to students, educators, law enforcement, and prevention partners.
  • Contribute positively to team culture within a virtual organization.

Other duties may be assigned as needed to support organizational priorities.

  • BA or BS degree with 3–5 years of experience in education, prevention, advocacy, program development, public health, or related field.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective writing, communication, and public-speaking skills.
  • Experience with expense tracking and basic budget monitoring.
  • Ability to work with and/or supervise volunteers and interns.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office & Teams, Google Suite, and related communication tools.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass Federal SAM and background check.
  • Must be a resident of Colorado, preferably in the target counties (Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson), but directly adjacent may be considered.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred but not required.
