    Summary

    About the Position: Provides the full scope of advanced diagnostic radiology services for the Department of Radiology.

    This is a direct hire solicitation.

    Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

    Duties
    • Conduct and interpret a wide range of diagnostic imaging studies.
    • Utilize specialty-unique imaging technology in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with complex problems.
    • Evaluate imaging test results for the purposes of diagnosis, patient care, research and education.
    • Supervisory positions will take disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands.
    • Supervisory positions will provide administrative and policy direction in terms of broadly defined missions or functions of the organization.
    • Provide training to Family Practices resident physicians, and medical students in their evaluation and management of patients.
    • Fractional share of the diagnostic radiologists staffing level within the Department of Radiology, WAMC, and will include, but not be limited to, plain film radiologic examinations,
    • Perform Neuroradiology, Computerized Tomography, Ultrasound, Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Angiography, and Interventional Radiology.
    Requirements

    Conditions of Employment
    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Position requires current licensing to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
    • Must be able to maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for state licensure, as required.
    • Certification by the American Board of Radiology, board eligible or equivalent organization in order to treat patients with complex problems
    • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
    • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 October 1996, which requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunization unless exempted by a physician.
    • This position is essential during inclement weather conditions or other emergency coverage duty (call) for general radiology.
    • Emergency coverage duty (call) for diagnostic radiology and also in his/her subspecialty field of radiology will be performed on a rotating schedule basis in an amount proportionate to the incumbent's
    • Work is also subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays
    • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
    • May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
    • A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
    • This position may have specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties may require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
    • May be required to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of employment.

    Qualifications

    Basic Requirement for Physician (Radiology-Diagnostic)/Supervisory Physician (Radiology-Diagnostic):

    Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

    Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

    Residency Training for GP-15 Position: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Radiology, or Radiation Oncology) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved. Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and location. This announcement may be used to fill positions at any of the tier's listed below:
    • Tier 1: $121,020 - $400,00
