    These interim positions perform beginning level technical work in a fishery, WildlifeManagement Area (WMA), habitat management program or research program. Join us in the exciting, innovative,and rewarding environment of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR)

    This is an interim position. An interim position means a position is established to address a one-time orrecurring need of less than (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS OurFish and Wildlife Technician I's are eligible for paid leave, paid holidays, and employee discounts.

    The ideal candidates for these positions will have a strong work ethic, work well with a team, be a self-starter as well as be adaptable and flexible.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Transport fish and wildlife throughout state and releases them into appropriate habitat.
  • Feeds, waters and cares for fish and wildlife while in care of the agency.
  • Perform maintenance work on equipment, facilities, and grounds.
  • Assist biologists and other professionals in the execution of their duties.
  • Interacts with public as assigned by supervisor.
  • Learns to operate heavy and technical equipment (tractor, mowers, other agricultural equipment).
  • Mowing, weed eating, landscaping.
  • Learns to collect data concerning fish and wildlife and to prepare reports.
  • Assist in the performance of soil and water tests and plants and cultivates agricultural crops to serveas food for wildlife.
  • Assists in the creation and/or restoration of terrestrial and aquatic habitat through environmentallyaccepted construction and development practices.
  • Assists in the identification and marking of boundaries of habitat and department held lands.
  • Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: High school graduate.
    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries or wildlife management will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE Working Conditions A majority of time may be spent working outside in inclement weather. Will be exposed to insects, snakes, andother harmful animals. Employees in this class will be required to operate various types of equipment used forgeneral building maintenance and lawn maintenance. Incumbent must be able to bend, stoop, climb, crawl, andwalk.
