- Oversee the day-to-day functions of after-school and summer camp program providing supervision for all program
staff - Interview/Hire program staff.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), Department of
Youth & Community Development (DYCD), Office of Food and Nutrition Services, and other relevant agencies. - Ensure that the participants are engaged in daily activities and all other duties required to guarantee the safety and
security of participants; Ensure proper staff to student coverage. - Ensure that all required information is entered into the database (Ex. DYCD Connect, Child & Adult Care Food
Program (CACFP), etc.). - Develop strong relationships with parents through targeted parent involvement and communication strategies.
- Plan and implement all functions/events that pertain to staff, families, and youth at program facility.
- Represent SQPA to various audiences and effectively communicate SQPA's mission and goals to school administrators,
public officials, funders, parents, etc. - Coordinate staff training, development, and site meetings; ensure that all staff have the required amount of staff
training hours. - Prepare and present relevant reports as needed; Conduct written and annual reviews of site staff.
- Attend SQPA, DYCD, and Administration planning meetings; Coordinate Advisory Meetings; Develop Youth Council in
collaboration with community representatives. - Responsible for outreach and recruitment of participants.
- Collaborates with the Assistant COMPASS Program Director and Educational Specialist to research, develop, and
modify lesson plans based on organizational and/or program themes and initiatives. - Assure the quality of the programming through regular staff supervision, program evaluation, data collection, analysis,
staff training, and program development.; Develop relevant resources that would improve and enhance programs and services. - Assist SQPA administration in research/grant writing efforts relating to areas of program development.

The Southern Queens Parks Association is looking for a dynamic individual to join the team as program director for the COMPASS/SONYC program located at Roy Wilkins Park. The Comprehensive Afterschool System of NYC (COMPASS) serves young people enrolled in grades K-12. SONYC, which stands for School's Out NYC, is the COMPASS' middle school model that serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Structured like clubs, the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom through trips and opportunities for instruction beyond the traditional facilities. Programs are offered 3 hours each day, 5 days per week during the school year. Services are also offered during the summer months. This specific outreach operates under the SQPA umbrella through use of its facilities, programming and thought leaders.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The COMPASS/SONYC Program Director will be responsible for the development of an appropriate program that ensures opportunities for physical, emotional, educational, creative and cognitive growth of the program participants. The COMPASS Program Director will be responsible for the overall supervision of program staff. This position requires the demonstration of a high degree of interpersonal skills, proven resourcefulness and motivation in developing a full services program.

SQPA finds innovative ways to combine its stewardship of the 54-acre Southern Queens-Roy Wilkins Park with its mission to enhance the quality of life of residents in Southern Queens.
SQPA has strategically located service sites throughout Southern Queens and was constituted to actively combat the social issues that challenge or impact the quality of life in the geographic area in and around Jamaica, Queens. SQPA is not a part of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation but is an anchor institution that serves as an intermediary, facilitator, organizer, advocate, provider, and sanctuary.
