    The Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) under the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) invites applications for two experienced, doctorate-level faculty biostatistician Open Rank Professors. Hiring track (Tenure or Non-Tenure) to be determined based on the experience and potential.

    The PHS department is the home to diverse data science faculty from biostatistics, bioinformatics, and clinical informatics who collaborate across disciplinary boundaries towards the shared mission of bringing people and information together to improve health for all through innovation, data-driven discovery, and transdisciplinary education. Research interests of the faculty include translational science, clinical- and population-based investigation, the application of epidemiological and biostatistical principles to clinical problem solving, formulation of health policy, and new analytic methods for adaptive clinical trial design, health equity/disparity, analysis of electronic health record data, bioinformatics, and deep neural networks.

    Research opportunities are available within medical, nursing, and dental fields as well as other health sciences. For candidates interested in cancer research, there are research opportunities with the Mays Cancer Center, one of four NCI-designated Cancer Centers in Texas and the only NCI designated center in South Texas. UT Health is also a leader in aging research with the newly funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and Claude Pepper San Antonio Older Americans Independence Center. The Department also has strong research and educational collaborations with the new partner School of Public Health enrolling in 2024.

    Requirements: Candidates for this position must meet the following minimum requirements:
    • PhD or equivalent in Biostatistics, Statistics or related field
    • Expertise in related to causal inference, health equity/disparity methods for large healthcare databases, statistical genomics applied to clinical outcomes, or clinical trial design
    • Evidence of independent and collaborative research potential and a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration
    • Teaching experience
    • Proven ability to communicate and lead across quantitative and biomedical fields
    • Preference will be given to a candidate with experience in adaptive clinical trials, health disparity analysis, causal inference, development of dynamic treatment algorithms, and electronic health data.
