    Job Description:

    The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of safe and quality patient care. This involves gathering and documenting patient screening data, obtaining vitals, preparing charts, drawing labs, maintaining their area, assisting providers, and performing various other tasks as needed.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Obtain missing medical records, lab, pathology, and x-ray reports from previous visits before next physician consultation.
    • Escort patients to the physician examination area.
    • Ensure pre-exam labs and x-rays are obtained according to lab and x-ray protocols.
    • Take vital signs and weight, recording height on initial visits and as needed thereafter.
    • Assist with maintaining vaccination and medication records.
    • Support prescription renewal processes.

    Additional Tasks:

    • Verify necessary information and record it in the medical record.
    • Prepare patients for examinations based on their individual needs and clinical condition.
    • Track patient progress throughout their treatment journey.
    • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, relaying important messages to staff as necessary.
    • Schedule tests, shots, and appointments as requested by patients or healthcare providers.
    • Maintain and update current information on physician schedules to ensure proper appointment scheduling and confirmation.
    • Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing procedures.
    • Chart records as needed for effective communication among healthcare team members.
    • Complete billing events accurately and timely at the end of each shift.
    • Administer shots to patients under the direction of a nurse or physician, ensuring that they have assessed the patient and provided direct instruction prior to administration.
    • Enter laboratory results into the electronic medical record after review by a healthcare provider.
    • Review registration sheets with new patients to ensure completion of medical history, enter medications, allergies, and shot records as necessary.
    • Offer vaccinations when required, under the guidance of a nurse or physician.
    • Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture or fingerstick techniques.
    • Test specimens for hematology, urinalysis, and process all laboratory specimens according to established protocols.
    • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations governing clinical laboratories.
    • Complete daily checklists and OSHA checklists as part of routine duties.
    • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support our mission of delivering high-quality and compassionate cancer care in our community.

    Qualifications and Competencies:

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • At least three years of medical experience.
    • Certification as a Medical Assistant, or completion of certification by July 2026.
    • Familiarity with the healthcare field and medical specialty.
    • Knowledge of specific assistance tasks related to particular medical specialties.
    • Understanding of essential information to convey to patients and families.
