Must understand the basic philosophy underlying a sound community recreation program and ability to interpret that philosophy to staff and the public.Ability to work cooperatively with representatives of the community, public and private groups and organizations to provide the best possible image to the department. A good general knowledge of pool facility operations, including scheduling, management, water quality, pool systems including, sanitation, circulation, filtration and heating components. Ability to evaluate, train, motivate, and supervise employees.
Examples of Duties
Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner, the pool manager assumes the responsibility for administering the pool program including supervision of events, training and supervising pool staff, public relations, safety, cash management and supervising building and grounds maintenance.
Ensure that every aspect of the pool's operation is safe. This includes checking the swimming pool equipment and filtration system, maintaining proper chemical levels in the water and test pool water per health code, preventing facility hazards from occurring, crowd control and the enforcement of safety rules. Complete daily Health Department report(s).
Evaluate existing situations and making decisions concerning hazardous weather conditions which may arise. Ensuring that the pool is properly and sufficiently staffed at all times.
Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment in connection with the operation and maintenance of the pool. Will assist co-workers in duties necessary for the proper upkeep and maintenance of the pool and pool grounds.
In-service training and supervision of staff and the establishment of emergency measures and procedures.
Plans and assigns all schedules for those who work at the pool in addition to over-seeing all staff including the swim team coach. Keep a record of work hours and submit payroll every two weeks.
Report maintenance, vandalism and/or personnel problems to the Assistant Commissioner overseeing pool operations.
Request pool supplies to Assistant Commissioner in a timely fashion.
Complete all daily, accident, incident, cash, discipline and pull-out reports.
Must supervise employees who operate a cash register and handle money.
Supervise the custodial cleaning of the pool facility, including the break rooms, restrooms, filter room, guard area, decks and the pool itself. Restrooms are to be inspected every two hours to ensure cleanliness.
Work closely with the community to involve as many people as possible in the aquatic program. Promote a spirit of friendliness and cooperation with co-workers and develop rapport with the community.
Coach staff for superior performance. If needed discipline of staff with an eye towards improving of job performance. Hold job coaching or if warranted a disciplinary action meeting with the employee in question as soon as possible. These meetings need to prompt, and properly documented. Coaching/Disciplinary action paperwork will be turned into the Program Coordinator A.S.A.P. but no later than 24 hours after completion.
Assist co-workers with their duties as needed during peak attendance periods.
Ensure that correct pool procedures, systems and policies are followed by swimmers and staff at all times.
Be available to work anytime the pool is open and as scheduled.
Responsible to the Parks and Recreation Department for carrying out their plans, policies and programs.
This position constitutes your primary employment. All other jobs should be secondary to this job and are not to conflict with your schedule as assigned. Schedule changes will only be granted in the case of an emergency, death in the family or personal sickness. Any abuse of this policy will result in disciplinary action.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the department.
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION
- High school graduate, some college experience preferred
- Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid
EXPERIENCE
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Previous lifeguarding experience with prior supervisory experience a plus
- Valid Ohio Driver's License
- Successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening
