    Summary



    VA NWIHCS is an integrated system that serves more than 148,000 Veterans in 101 counties in Nebraska, western Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. It includes a tertiary medical center in Omaha, 2 larger clinics in Lincoln and Grand Island (which includes a Community Living Center), 5 community-based outpatient clinics, and one contract clinic.



    Duties


    The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. This is an approach to healthcare that empowers and equips people to take charge of their health and well-being and live their lives to the fullest.     **Please note the salary range for a General Cardiologist is $340,000 -$360,000, and $340,000-$400,000 for EP or Interventional Cardiologist.

    Recruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized

    Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

    Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

    Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

    Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

    Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

    The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Healthcare System seeks a full time board certified Cardiologist to serve as a Chief of Cardiology. Experience with heart failure patients is preferred. The Chief of Cardiology will be expected to provide comprehensive patient care in the form of consultative inpatient and outpatient Cardiology patient care at any of the Healthcare System (HCS) clinical locations. The physician will manage patients with ongoing Cardiology conditions, inpatient and outpatient, in collaboration with other services of the HCS. The incumbent is accountable to the Chief of Medicine assuring the most effective delivery of care in services within Medical Service.

    Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Assigned administrative and clinical supervision of all Physicians and APP's within Cardiology Service.
    • Complete yearly proficiencies for all providers within the service.
    • Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
    • Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care
    • Procedural skills may include (dependent upon training) arterial puncture, EKG interpretation, Transthoracic and Transesophageal echocardiography performance and interpretation, other cardiology procedures such as cardiac catheterization (right and left heart), cardiac biopsy, balloon angioplasty, coronary artery stenting, pacemaker placement, pericardiocentesis, ventipuncture, cardiac dysrhythmia diagnosis, mapping and ablation, or other cardiology techniques, diagnostics, or procedures dependent on type of fellowship and post-fellowship training.
    • Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation
    • Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care. Collaborate with APP's and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am -4:30pm; Plus rotating inpatient call shifts. Telework is not authorized for this position.
