    General Overview:

    Massachusetts General Hospital has an opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Cancer Center as a Resource RN
    • The Resource RN will ultimately provide support, coverage, direction, attention, and care to assist in making sure patients are cared for in a safe and holistic environment. Will aim to support their nurses and support staff in creating this environment and reaching to resources to make the Cancer Center environment be the best it can be and provide patients and families alike with an experience that facilitates a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient and staff outcomes and support the MGB mission, philosophy, standards, goals, and objectives of the MGH Cancer Center.
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Works collaborative with the Nurse Director and other resource RN providing daily support to the practice RNs, MA's, Phlebotomists, remote Case Managers and remote Access RNs
    • Comprised of 17 oncology specialty clinics throughout the outpatient Cancer Center
    • Will work collaboratively and strategically to ensure adequate nursing coverage for vacation requests, FMLA's and unexpected holes
    • Evaluates daily staffing and adjusts as needed to provide support for nursing operations for indirect/direct patient care, if needed, and to support clinical operations and the clinic team
    • Demonstrates awareness & recognition of the daily operations of the clinic, providing support to clinic staff by assessing, & evaluating the needs of the clinic
    • Acts as a professional role model to all levels of staff by incorporating critical thinking, & problem- solving skills within their scope as Resource Practice Nurse (RPN)
    • Assists Nurse Director with interviewing and onboarding of new hires
    • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with MGH and Cancer Center patients and colleagues
    • Fosters an environment that promotes patient, family, physician, & staff satisfaction, & communicates issues & concerns to ND
    • Proactively seeks and acts upon patient, families and staff feedback and initiates appropriate action
    • Interprets and enforces with staff and others the appropriate use of equipment, supplies, and physical facilities
    • Acts as the resource to clinical staff and providers, problem solves, uses critical thinking skills to ensure MGH and Cancer Center standards are being met
    • Ability to Multitask effectively
    • Organizational skills both to function independently and as a member of a professional team are important
    • Demonstrate clinical competence in nursing practice that includes the ability to assess problems or concerns and make appropriate decisions
    • Demonstrates strong communication and collaboration skills
    Collaboration
    • Leads staff to develop collaborative working relationships within the cancer center and with other departments as applicable
    • Acts as a liaison to Infusion unit, research pharmacy, and laboratory as needed to ensure effective clinical operations for all specialty clinics
    • Participates in Committee meetings as assigned/requested
    • Collaborates with ND to implement process improvement initiatives
    • Readiness for JACHO survey and MAGNET certification

    • Identifies learning needs and goals and designs a plan to meet them
    • Maintains necessary clinical skills through self-directed clinical practice
    • Establishes self as a resource for other areas where expertise may be required
    • Supports and participates in departmental and institutional committees
    • Collaborates with leadership in identification of current and future service needs and shares responsibility for meeting these needs
    • Current licensure as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    • Baccalaureate degree preferred
    • OCN certification preferred
    • Ambulatory oncology nursing experience
    • Epic familiarity
