    Founded in 1973 by two former U.S. Forest Service employees who saw a need for a company that uniquely understood Forest Service projects, DJ&A has continued to grow and expand over the last 50 years by embracing the values of our founders. Today, we have a team of 120+ skilled professionals spanning across offices in Missoula, MT (headquarters); Bozeman, MT; Vancouver, WA; Denver, CO; Sioux Falls, SD, and Reno, NV.

    Job Summary

    DJ&A is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist with relevant general experience in natural resources, preferably with an emphasis in wildlife, vegetation, or recreation. Other experiences can include permitting or documentation related to compliance with the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, and National Historic Preservation Act. Other resource field expertise includes fisheries, hydrology, forestry, wetland science, air quality, and soils science.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    General

    • Conducts site investigations, data collection, and data analysis.
    • Serve as a technical lead for environmental projects.
    • Scoping and managing project tasks.
    • Research, analyze, and compile data for environmental documentation.
    • Author all types of environmental documents.
    • Writes specialist reports and sections of environmental analysis documents.
    • Candidate must have a willingness to be a part of a highly competent team that tackles a variety of projects with interesting challenges that are unique to their respective locations.
    • Acquires general knowledge or principles and practices of related fields, and the ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
    • Receives general guidance on key objectives.
    • Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
    • Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
    • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
    • Implement QA/QC procedures.
    • Coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets, quality, and agency requirements are achieved.

    Education and Experience
    • B.S. degree or higher in a natural resources field.
    • An understanding of the NEPA process.
    • Demonstrated ability to author various environmental documents.
    • Team oriented and possesses a desire to learn and grow with the company.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
    • Strong communication, computer, analytical, time management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and ability to foster professional relationships.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
    • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
    • Must be able to access and navigate to remote work sites in remote locations with steep terrain and inclement weather.
