- Patrols all buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guards against trespass, theft, fire, and damage to property.
- Maintains order among visitors and staff; maintains motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding and other traffic conditions and takes necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities.
- Performs security duties such as screening visitors, directing traffic, and enforcing parking controls.
- Provides personal protection to individuals as required including but not limited to, searching for missing goods and persons, conducting surveillance, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities.
- Assists with providing custodial supervision of medically ill and mental health clients, and escorts them to various appointments.
- Coordinates the maintenance of hospital firefighting equipment, alarm systems and other safeguards; reports defects and request repairs in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements.
- Monitors hospital switchboard, gauges, and alarm indicator panels; takes necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including system resets.
- Prepares reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty.
- Preserves crime scenes and fire sites, performs searches and inspections, serves court summons to patients or staff, and performs job related duties for safety and security as necessary and as directed.

- Ability to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.

- Prior health care facility security or law enforcement experience.
- CPR Certified, First Responder and NARCAN trained.
- Ability to solve problems and relate to hospital staff, constituents, and other community members in a positive and professional manner.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have (A) at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment or individuals, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services, Department of Mental Health and Department of Public Health are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and first aid.
Additionally, applicants applying for positions within the Department of Youth Services are required to obtain and maintain a valid certification in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
Substitutions:
I. An Associate's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate's years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division's Hiring Guidelines.
For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
