- Our team treats a wide spectrum of diagnoses including but not limited to: Alzheimer's disease, Lewy-body dementia, suicidal ideations, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective, schizophrenia, failure to thrive, delirium, Huntington's, Parkinson's, and Pick's disease.
- With treating the older adult population in the inpatient setting, our patients may have or be treated for the following: minor wound care in between consults (no tracheostomy or suction), IV fluids, colostomy, and tube feeding (rare). RN agency staff are encouraged to share in taking the charge nurse role once comfortable with the unit flow.
- Patient safety is our number one priority.
- Our patients are rounded on daily by psychiatrists, hospitalists, social workers, and the behavioral health pharmacist.
- Our hospital also has an in-house code team for emergencies.
- We have a specially trained behavioral health security team to assist with staff and patient safety.
- Our unit has built-in video monitoring to all patient areas, Ascom portable phone system, and emergency pendants (duress buttons) to offer high quality workplace safety.
- Wichita, Kansas, is the largest city in the state but has low traffic volumes with plenty of transportation options and with a top-rated national airport.
- Safe and affordable housing is easy to find and there are also safe options for those using campers/tiny-house vehicles.
- We have big-name entertainment at the Intrust-Bank arena and a LARGE, diverse, selection for food.
- There are also several options for camping, children/family activities, museums, science centers, and shopping galore.
- Senior Behavioral Health (SBH) 25-bed locked unit that is typically always full
- 5 nurses and 3 PCTs per shift.
- Typical patient age range of 60 and older.
- BLS and ACLS
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- Certified Principal Investigator (CPI) Certification
- Sound knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- The ability to stand for extended periods.
- Strong technical skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Passionate about patient care
- Requires a minimum of two years of current RN Geriatric Behavioral Health experience.
- Graduate from a fully accredited RN program
- Active unencumbered RN Kansas state license
- One year of Epic experience
- COVID vaccine with 2 Shots & Booster.
- Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.
- Participates in relevant continuing education programs.
- Knowledge of and dedication to the highest patient care and provide the utmost service excellence to all patients.
- Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision-making and problem-solving expertise.
- A can-do, team oriented attitude is essential, as the ability to work independently and to interact easily with physicians, other managers and staff throughout the department and hospital.
- Effective interpersonal/communication, organizational, and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
