    Position
    Renton Technical College is looking to hire a Catering Helper This is a hourly, on-call, and overtime eligible position part of the Food Service Team and reports directly to the Director of Food Service Operations. Under the direct supervision of the cook, lead cook, or other supervisor, the Catering Helper performs a variety of kitchen functions to assist others to prepare meals in a timely and professional manner. Standard work hours for this position will vary depending on the catering events schedule and calendar.

    Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
    • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically marginalized populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
    • Assist with the preparation of designated cooking and kitchen functions.
    • Properly complete food requisition forms.
    • Assist in maintaining the operational flow of patrons during the meal.
    • Set-up designated dining rooms and/or buffet lines.
    • May assist others to serve beer and wine during on-campus events.
    • Demonstrate job functions to students and report on student activities to the instructor.
    • Complete cleaning tasks to appropriate standards in assigned areas.
    • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while providing friendly customer service to patrons.
    • Comply with the health department rules and regulations at all times.
    • May perform the duties of the busser or dishwasher on occasion.
    • Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with customers, college employees, departments and outside agencies.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service Operations.
    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
    • Frequent lifting, pushing and or carrying of supplies is required.
    • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Food Handler's Permit and a Washington State Liquor Control Board Class 12 Mixologist permit.
    • Ability to drive motor vehicles with a valid driver's license is preferred.
    • Prolonged standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending and kneeling is required.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail required as well as previous experience managing multiple tasks, planning, and organizing to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
    • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    This role requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and lifting heavy objects such as trays, plates, glassware racks. Work is primarily performed in the food services area which is adequately heated and ventilated, with occasional tasks performed near hot ovens and grills.

    Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only - benefits would begin on the first day of the working month after working 50% or more for two consecutive quarters).

    Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIA) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIA) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
    *Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B
