    Overview on Wealth Management and Investment Management Technology


    Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) strives to provide outstanding long-term investment performance, service, and a comprehensive suite of investment management solutions to a diverse client base, which includes governments, institutions, corporations, and individuals worldwide.

    MS Investment Management Technology is responsible for the design, development, delivery, and support of the global technical platforms that supports the MSIM Business.

    The individual will be working within the MSIM Global Risk and Analysis (GRA) IT group.

    GRA IT use a mix of vendor products and in-house developed systems for measuring, controlling, and reporting Investment Risk metrics and Performance Analytics across the division's $1.3Tn in Assets Under Management, covering Equities, Fixed Income, Alternatives, and Multi-Asset portfolios.


    The Global Performance Analysis and Reporting (GPAR IT) squad works within GRA IT to provide an industry-leading platform for the calculation, validation, and visualization of Performance Attribution data.

    GPAR IT are also responsible for providing the data behind characteristics calculations, portfolio management analysis, executive reporting, and marketing materials.

    Roles & Responsibilities


    We are seeking a business-aware Senior Developer to join our GPAR IT squad in its offices in either New York, NY or West Conshohocken, PA.

    This is a great opportunity for an experienced developer to join a professional development team, working on strategic initiatives as we integrate business lines and adopt a cloud-first platform.

    The Person In This Role Will Have These Responsibilities

    > Work closely with business stakeholders to determine the requirements for projects and new features. Analyze and design solutions to satisfy those requirements.

    > Build and maintain Java Spring Boot services, ETL flows, and Python data quality scripts

    > Maintain the schema and content of our operational data stores and data warehouse on DB2 and Sybase databases. At the same time, take a leading role in migrating to Snowflake.

    > Respond to business requests for help with data content and calculations; handle escalations from the support team

    > Participate in the SDLC lifecycle, including requirement gathering, analysis and design, development, deployment, and support. Take a lead role in providing direction and technical assistance to offshore developers.

    We are looking for a passionate technologist who is ready to learn and experiment with a wide range of technologies.


    The ideal candidate will have:
    Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or other STEM fields

    8 to 10 years of professional development experience, preferably working in an environment that focuses on distributing data via microservices and APIs.

    Strong knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture/RESTful services. Understand the key characteristics of robust cloud computing.
    Working knowledge of SQL, and Java/Python database connectivity. Experience with any relational databases, especially DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase. Any experience working with Snowflake databases and Snowflake data sharing will be a plus.
    Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments

    Good-to-have Skills

    Experience working in the financial services industry and knowledge of the investment management business. A strong mathematical background or understanding of financial quantitative calculations, ideally in calculating portfolio analytics (performance, attribution, and risk)
    Implementation experience in Cloud Based platforms will be a plus, especially any Azure experience or certifications.

    Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $140,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment.

    However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
