    Summary: We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to spearhead the development of industrial rotary encoders. This role entails designing machined parts from various materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, steel, and plastics, as well as overseeing the design of castings and rotary shaft assemblies. The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning, 3D modeling, prototype coordination, validation testing, certification compliance, and troubleshooting of legacy products. Additionally, collaboration with electrical engineers and other mechanical engineers to ensure the integration of sensitive electronics and magnetic components into harsh environments will be essential.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Proficient in 3D modeling & drawing creation, preferably with Autodesk Inventor, and adept in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Capable of generating multiple design concepts to meet product requirements.
    • Skilled in project planning, including resource allocation, budgeting, timelines, and third-party testing coordination.
    • Experienced in designing experiments for product validation testing.
    • Proficient in fixture design for assembly facilitation and performance validation testing, including vibration and thermal testing.
    • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-engineering personnel, including shop floor personnel and management.
    • Hands-on experience with testing and evaluating prototypes.
    • Strong report writing skills for product test reports, failure analysis reports, and benchmark testing reports.
    • Intermediate proficiency with common lab/shop tools such as drill press, hand tools, torque wrenches, etc.

    Education Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME or MSME).

    Experience Requirements:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar industry.
    • Experience with manual bench lathe and end mill preferred.
    • Basic understanding of motor drives, power, or control electronics terminology is advantageous.
    • Experience with rotary encoders or rotating machinery.
    • Design for Six Sigma or Black Belt certification is a plus
