    General Definition of Work

    Performs semiskilled work providing water aerobics instruction To be successful in this position, you will be able to perform such tasks as monitoring and educating patrons on fitness and safety, and maintaining a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants. Work is performed under the general supervision of Assistant Aquatic Supervisor and the Aquatic Supervisor.

    Shift:

    Morning: Monday - Friday 8:45 am - 10:15 am

    Evening: Monday & Wednesday 5:45 pm - 7:15 pm

    Essential Functions

    • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time
    • Provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down
    • Instructs patrons on effective workout methods- identifying specific muscle groups, explaining and teaching proper techniques and methods to strengthen specific muscles, demonstrating exercises
    • Prepares appropriate equipment, music (optional), and handouts for each class
    • Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for members and class participants
    • Keeps management informed of pool activities, facility needs, and significant problems
    • Ensures that safety standards, department, and facility policies are adhered to
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Ability to positively interact and communicate with the general public, parents, camp staff, lifeguards and other aquatic staff
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and operate effectively in a team environment.
    Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED is required
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Previous aquatic water aerobics experience is preferred
    • Certification by AEA, ACE, AFAA, or other recognized agency is required
    Special Requirements
    • First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required upon hire
    • Aquatic Water Aerobics Certification required
    Physical Requirements
    • This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force
    • Work regularly requires walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, pulling, lifting and standing for extended periods of time
    • Using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions
    • Occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing
    • Work has standard vision requirements
    • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
    • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, to receive detailed information through oral communications and to make fine distinctions in sound
    • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data
    • Work will be at an indoor aquatic facility and may include exposure to all types of conditions including chlorine or other pool chemicals, heat, blood or other body fluids
