Betsy Johnson Hospital Dunn, North Carolina Minimum Experience **Entry-level** Responsibilities

Responsible for preparing and cooking food in accordance with daily menu, schedule, and individual diet orders in sufficient quantities and in accordance with recipes, sanitation procedures, and portion control. Follows established procedures for safe food handling and storage. Utilizes, operates, and cleans fat fryers, blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, cooking equipment (electric, steam, and gas), and other kitchen machines following proper procedures.

Gathers food from refrigerator, freezers, and dry storage. Washes, trims, and chops vegetables, fruits, and meats. Prepares meats, vegetables, stews, casseroles, soups, sauces, salads, and sandwiches. Prepares, assembles, and delivers food, beverages, and supplies for catering events. Sets up food in cafeteria and tray-line to meet standards of palatability, appearance, and temperature. Assists in serving food, collecting money, and basic cleaning in cafeteria. Cleans, sanitizes, and organizes work area. Disposes of trash and garbage. May be responsible for opening (setting up machines) or closing (breaking down machines) the cafeteria.

Responsible for patient trays and food that is served on the line. Follows standard recipes, utilizing specified preparation techniques, cooking utensils, and containers appropriate to items being prepared. Assists in preparation of special diet meals. Transports food carts to patient floors according to schedule. Responsible for all duties above plus cakes, pies, desserts, and other baked items. Creates new recipes and modifies existing recipes to improve or meet special dietary needs. Cleans and organizes produce and bakery refrigerators, rotating stock and disposing of produce and items that do not meet standards of freshness. Coordinates catering events. Cooks and serves grill items in the cafeteria. Inventories and restocks nourishment refrigerators and condiment bins. Perform other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent. Formal culinary training preferred.

Minimum Experience, Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

Hospital experience preferred. Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions and recipes. Ability to operate food service and cooking equipment and a cash register. Excellent skills in food preparation, basic math, and customer service. Demonstrated ability to appropriately perform responsibilities listed above. Ability to operate food service and cooking equipment and a cash register.
