    Job Overview

    The Direct Support Professional-Per Diem is responsible for maintaining a safe, predictable, and therapeutic living environment for children in care at Andrus while supporting the agency's mission, vision, core values, and treatment philosophy.

    The Direct Support Professional-Per Diem provides close supervision, counseling, and support to the children during all cottage-based activities. They plan and implement individual and group initiatives to build children's skills and self-esteem.

    The Direct Support Professional-Per Diem ensures that the basic needs of children are met, and the cottage is maintained in a safe, orderly, predictable, therapeutic, structured, and clean condition.

    They work as part of a multidisciplinary team which includes recreation therapists, teachers, social workers, and other professionals.

    Hours of Work

    9:00 PM-9:00 AM, with varying hours when needed.

    Essential Duties

    • Assure the safety of each resident and the cottage community.
    • Actively supervise residents at all times, based on their age and level, to ensure everyone's safety.
    • Enact the program schedule as written and on time.
    • Use Sanctuary principles in providing care.
    • Use trauma-sensitive care in services provided.
    • Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) techniques to prevent triggering, intervene early, manage crises safely, and assure learning after crises.
    • Record consistent monitoring using the scan system, conducting visual checks every 15 minutes during the shift.
    • Document work in a clear and timely manner using scanning, nightly logs, round-up, census, and other reports.
    • Establish safety within the cottage, executing consistent communication with colleagues and residents through established systems.
    • Maintain flexibility to move to any residential cottage based on program needs.
    • Support the overall strategic plan of the organization.
    • Able to adhere to our organization's core values and commitments.

    Qualifications

    • CPR/First Aid certification preferred, with mandatory in-service trainings.
    • Minimum of HS diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of experience working with children or adults with developmental or behavioral disabilities.
    • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
    • Multi-lingual a plus.
    • A valid driver's license in good standing for a minimum of 3 years.
    • Able to maintain a driver's license in good standing according to our policy.
    • Able to access and utilize ADP on a smartphone or other device for access to agency programs.

    Physical/Travel Requirements

    • Candidates must participate in our Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training, including a written and verbal test, and be evaluated on conducting a proper physical restraint.
    • Possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs.
