    The Director of the Antibody Technology Core (ATC) shared resource leads the ATC team and sets its scientific, operational, and administrative goals.

    This role catalyzes Fred Hutch research in antibody discovery by providing expertise through consultation and guidance in antibody technology, fostering collaborative science, and expanding state-of-the-art services.

    This position will engage in a broad spectrum of antibody discovery projects including novel CAR-T compositions, antibody therapeutics, diagnostics, and research tools.

    This core is part of Fred Hutch's Shared Resources.

    The Director may hold a Staff Scientist or Senior Staff Scientist credential depending on qualifications (PhD).

    Responsibilities


    Primary/Essential Duties:
    Leadership


    • Direct day-to-day scientific and administrative operations of the Antibody Technology Core team with minimal to rare input from Shared Resources (SR) Senior leadership.
    • Take ownership of all core responsibilities including the development of staff and strategic goals.
    • Actively seek and identify opportunities to contribute to objectives of the ATC, Fred Hutch and external researchers and the Shared Resources department.
    Science


    • Lead science at Fred Hutch in the field of Antibody Discovery.
    • This position oversees a cutting -edge industrial scale laboratory with over $2.5M in instrumentation supporting up to 40 unique antibody discovery campaigns annually.
    • Expand the scientific and technical expertise within the Core.
    • Evaluate current services and models offered for usage and relevance and strategically grow the Core's expertise to innovate and meet user needs.
    Communications/Collaboration


    • Maintain a strong relationship with users, the Faculty Advisory Committee, and other core directors to define priorities and strategy for advancing scientific support for researchers.
    • Increase the user base of the core through exposure and marketing.
    • Identify and connect with potential new users, new suppliers and outside sources of expertise.
    Operations/Administration


    • Assume fiscal responsibility for operation of the Core.
    • Use operating metrics to ensure sufficient staffing and expertise to meet demand for service.
    • Maintain detailed data and records.
    • Ensure a culture of safety and compliance with institutional regulations.
    People


    • Embody a culture of support and encourage continuous improvement and learning for staff.

    Scope of Responsibility:
    Level of autonomy


    • This individual is expected to function independently as a motivated shared resource director and scientist.
    • The position involves operational direction of the ATC shared resource, daily oversight of the technical staff, interaction and project planning with internal and external customer base, and evaluation and development of new technology or service offerings.
    Financial responsibility


    • This position has responsibility for financial decisions regarding the ATC shared resource including rate setting, metrics, and goals.
    • When applicable, additional oversight will be provided by AVP, SR and/or Sr. Director Research Administration, Finance and Operations.
    Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree +10 years' experience
    • Specified years of experience in performance of cell biology and antibody discovery

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree +8 years' expereience or PhD +5 years' expereience
    • Minimum of 3 years management of a Shared Resource Core in an NCI-Designated Cancer Center
    • Experience in molecular biology, protein engineering, protein purification, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), and tissue culture
    • Experience with developing and maintaining B cell culture systems
    • Proven ability to manage and prioritize project pipelines
    • Previous experience managing direct reports with an emphasis on developing careers
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to identify and foster partnerships and collaborations
    • Familiarity and experience with the principles and operation of basic flow cytometry equipment
    • Rodent handling skills (mice and rats)
    • Familiarity with specialized software (Tecan EVOWare, ForeCyt, UNICORN-VENUS, Momentum, VWORKs, Geneious Prime, LIMs)
    • Formal computer science programming skills (e.g., Python) and a general familiarity with mechanical/electrical/robotic engineering
    • Understanding of operations within a Shared Resource core including financial, personnel, strategic, and project management
    • Ability to interact with others at all levels in a positive and collegial manner

    The annual base salary range for this position is from $115,107 to $181,917 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
