    Role
    • The Consumer Loan Officer underwrites consumer loan applications received by the company. This position screens consumer application packages to determine acceptability of the credit request based on the organizations predetermined lending guidelines.
    Major Duties and Responsibilities
    • Discuss approvals and declines with members with a professional demeanor. Provide detailed explanation of decline and options if any, for future consideration. Ability to determine risk in extending credit and supporting information to present for a clinical review.
    • Cross-sell applicable products and aftermarket products such as GAP, Warranties, and value adding purchases made by members to enhance our member's financial future
    • Verifying acceptable identification, ensuring proper funding of account and verifying membership eligibility through acceptable documentation
    • Ability to verify accuracy of provided loan information including all loan documents, finance contract, buyer's order, title paperwork, insurance information, membership application, acceptable identification, vehicle bookout and ancillary product contracts. Maintains accurate member and loan information in the computer system with a critical eye to ensure smooth funding of loan packages.
    • Respond and prioritize telephone credit and information requests in a timely manner thoroughly documenting conversations and responses
    • Determine credit decisions within assigned limits utilizing up to date regulations and credit union policies and procedures. This position will maintain awareness on evolving laws and regulations as well as trends in credit union industry
    • Collect loan application components e.g. credit bureau reports, collateral evaluation, member account data, financial statements, tax returns, and any other pertinent information in order to make a consistent sound lending decision on consumer or home equity products, as a total package.
    • Prepares consumer loan Truth-in-Lending statements, financing statements, addendums and any other documents needed for disbursement.
    • Identify, recommend and actively participant in the continued improvement and development of position/department functions and processes.
    • Enthusiastically provide support for credit union annual organizational goals.
    • Assist with and will-call members' needs that arise to ensure complete satisfaction of member experience in loans.
    • Provide financial counseling to members when requested.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
    Qualifications

    Experience
    • One to three years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
    Education/Certifications/Licenses
    • A high school diploma or GED is required.
    Interpersonal Skills
    • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.
    Other Skills
    • Must be able to utilize computer, telephone, ten key, and Microsoft Office products. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
    Physical Requirements
    • Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
    Working Conditions
    • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private work area with minimal noise.

    • Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines/requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
